We're thinking about going rafting up on the Kern River. What's the camping like at Isabella? Are there decent spots for a 30' toy hauler? How hot does it get up there in July?
If you are looking to raft on the Upper Kern you can stay at several of the forest service campgrounds above Kernville or stay at the RV park Camp James which is right in Kernville on the river. I think there are a couple of RV parks in the same area, Camp James is what I am familiar with.
If you are looking to ride (green stickers) and raft you can stay in Keysville(just outside of Isabella) and just drive up to Kernville.
You may want to check with the rafting companies to see if they are still running, when we where there Memorial Day they said most would close that weekend because of low water levels.
You can go in from either the 5 or 14, the 14 route is a little longer but a lot easier than going up the canyon from the 5. I go in from the 14 all the time with no problems.
If you go to Keysville, let me know and I will get cords for a great spot. The riding up there is a little technical, but great.

I'm heading up there tomorrow morning Dave. Camping at Live Oak this time, camped at Tillie Creek last year with my 30' fifth wheel. Not a lot of sites that I fit in but a few. Last year snagged a pull through right on Tillie Creek, which was running nicely due to good snow pack, I'm sure it's dry this year. Have also stayed at camp 3 and Hospital Flat, spots are pretty small though.
Another option, if you want to be right on the water and have 4wd is Coral Creek, its mostly a picnic area but they do allow dispersed camping, my partner goes there all the time but his trailer is only 16'.
Stay away from the lake, especially Aux. dam, totally squids on the weekends and the lake is still really low due to dam issues.
Let me know if there's anything I can check out for you this weekend.
River Nook is VERY nice and right on the water with big mature trees, I tent camped there 40+ years ago. They have hookups right down by the water, if you can snag one. I called once and they were pretty snotty though.

YEP
AND NOT DIRT BIKE FRIENDLY.
We asked if it was OK to unload it out of the garage, the answer was NO, so I put it in the bed of the truck and promised not to start it or unload it, they were NOT even happy about that, but alowed Us in. A nice pull thru site by the river with hookups.
