I'm guessing that is true. Don't know what the difference is yet until I take a good look at some.

Note: Travel trailers don't come with built in generators.

I bought a 17' TH to take to Alaska. I wanted a trailer that had enough floor space for 3 Collies, large water tank 62 gallons, built in generator and 28 gallon fuel tank, Has 15" tires with 3500# axles and I have enough room for a leather stress-less recliner. Try to find that in a regular 17' TT.

Summer use:
1. Kid Space
2. Firewood
3. BBQ
4. Bicycles
5. Lawn Chairs
6. Misc. stuff that we decide to toss in at the last minute.
Winter use:
1. Hanging space to dry out ski clothes, boots, gloves
Toys??? After working on the farm machinery all week I'm good with leaving that mechanized stuff behind.

We do kinda haul toys, if you count our 6 bikes; and a bunch of play gear (frisbees, tennis, baseball, fishing, basketball, etc). The cargo capacity for that stuff is what we were looking for.
I understand what you mean, though; the design and simple, open interiors appeal to me, too. We got a Livin Lite VRV, so I really like the sterile / industrial type look.
RVs cost a lot: so get what you want, what appeals to your sensibilities, and fits the lifestyle that YOU are living. It's your money, and you're the one using it.

We traded our pup in for a toy hauler because we take Kayaks and got tired of strapping them to the roof. We could have went with a TT, but besides the boats the TH still better suited our needs. I love the fact that we can open the back end and sit inside while the weather isn't all that good. We also like the open floor plan that is more versatile than a TT. Our older dog loves to walk up the ramp instead of "climbing" the stairs. I defiantly put the heavy stuff in the back to offset the high tongue weight. One draw back for us is the heavy weight and the height produces a lot of drag.

We've had one for a while now and never put a "toy" in the back. I used the garage as an office and worked out of it full time for 6 months. I actually built a wedge for the ramp coming in so the entire floor is level. We've also used it to move furniture when we decided to move from NJ to FL - it makes a very nice enclosed trailer. On normal camping trips I like having the space to stack bikes for the family etc.
The floorplan is great for general purpose - no reason to think the name comes with "rules".

We have toys and we do take them with us sometimes but for the most part and the real reason we bought our Raptor is it makes a great dog house. We have two retired racing greyhounds and it makes a great place for them. They both ride in the truck but at the campsite the garage is thier home To us the best thing about a Toy Hauler is it gives us so many options take the Harley, or take the golf cart I even have a 10 foot Bass Hound and trailer that fits in the garage if we want all things that would most likely stay home if not for the garage.

We didn't plan on it, but the only thing that has been int eh garage since new was teh 4wheeler once and the weber smoker 3 times. The 14ft garage just makes a really nice 2nd room, weather toys are brought along or not. I don't know if you can justify the price differential, but that fact doesn't matter to me, so even if I didn't have toys, knowing what I know now, I would buy another TH in a heart beat just to camp in.

Sometimes we take it without the toys. When we don't take the motorcycles we use the 12 foot garage to haul other things which is quite nice. It has the 2 couch beds that fold up against the wall and the bed that lowers down from the ceiling. We do not need all of the beds since our girls are grown and moved out but it is nice to have them in case friends come along. Our toy hauler is a 2012 Forest River Work & Play Model WPT30WR. The unit is 31 and a half feet long without the tongue. I think a lot of people use them to camp in and may never haul a toy in the back. Just beware that they do have a heavier tongue weight than travel trailers.
