The original suject of this thread was:
"Charged for service not performed Fort Worth (McClains"
I wanted to update here for those that might not make it to the end of the thread.
Marcus Lemonis and Laif Hanson from Camping World went above and beyond any expectations to make sure I was a Happy Camper even though they were not responsible for the lousy service I received from McClains RV.
================================================================
Dear Marcus,
In December, we had a little warranty work done as our 12 months were expiring. We bought this motorhome new from Camping World.
During checkin, maybe I had a little guilt about having all warranty work done and asked the service manger 'if there were front suspension grease fittings that needed to be installed and lubed. He stated that there were probably 4 that needed to be installled and lubed. I asked about the cost and he said probably half hour labor - $40.
When we picked up the unit, the line item for installing the fittings was double at $80. Although I could not see taking a full hour to do this work, I let it slide and paid the $80 (I think) without question.
Since then, we have only been able to ge the motorhome out for 2 weekends to a local lake only 10 miles from home. It is stored in an enclosed storage, not exposed to any weather.
Yesterday, my son and I are crawling around under it checking things out for a long trip and here is what we found.
1. Blank plugs still at the lube points on the ball joints.
2. Existing lube zerks on the tie rod portion un-touched.
Bottom line... I paid for service and absolutely no work was performed.
I do not want to make the drive back to Fort worth may not trust them to work on my rig again.
I can do it myself in just a few minutes.
Any suggestions.

I would have just screwed the fittings in myself in the first place. It might be worth a call to McCains but 6 months is a long time.

Yep, I know I could have done it myself a lot quicker and cheaper.
I was just trying to give the dealer some paid business.
And I know 6 months is a long time, but as I said, it has been in an enclosed storage most of the time since then. But the zerks not being installed is obvious for sure.
McClains says I can bring it by for them to check it.
Might do while i wait or might take 2 days.
But nothing will be warrantied.
I think it is a shame that I would need to immediately check to make sure the work was done after service.
Maybe I will just learn after this to:
1. Do all of my own work that I can do.
2. Immediately check that any service work was done properly, or at all.
Thanks for your feedback.

".....a mistake...."? When you charge for work not done, and for parts not delivered, isn't that the definition of fraud? If they gave him a bill, it's their responsibility to determine that the parts and labor that they were billing for have actually been provided.

I agree completely....This was NO mistake, it was a mechanic certifying that he preformed a job that he had not. In my book, that is theft......

Why don't you just send them a picture of the blank plugs that are still installed and ask for a refund?

We have had similar dealings with this outfit in the past. We purchased a Coachman Catalina from them and we had a rear window fall out while we were going down the road. Took it back and they replaced it and within a short span of time it fell out again. I dedided right then never ever to do any business with then again. In my estimation they do poor work based on personal experience. I called coachman and ordered a window and had a local RV repair intsll it and never had any more problems. Your story does not surprise me, good luck in your dealings with them. I hope they are better than what I had.

Theft and fraud and no doubt about it. A mistake is missing one zerk when there's 12 to do on the chassis.
Yes I've been caught by this nonsense before too, but only once. And from then on when I get work done I watch it being done, and then crawl inside or under to verify it was done and done right. With the exception of recalls and very MAJOR work this is why I do my own maintenance. I make it very clear to the service writer when I go in and insist on the tech SHOWING me what he did and claim or see (if warranty) the replaced parts. Unfortunately, this sort of theft and fraud is very common in the RV industry. Let the buyer beware, ALWAYS.
