Hi, I just purchased a 14,000# fifth wheel. Now I need a truck and hitch. I will get a 1 ton duallly. not sure of which brand yet. 1. One hitch installer said I need a slider with any super cab, even with long bed. Is not that wrong? 2. With a good used 18-20k hitch, I should be ok. Due to bed height would you recommend a hitch that can be adjusted vertically to at least 18". 3. Truck will have the stock brake controller, for elc over hydraulic. do I still need an aftermarket controller. King pin will be trail air. Thanks for all advice.

No slider required on the longbed, crew cab or not. In some cases, sliders aren't even needed on shortbed trucks depending on how the front cap of the fiver is designed. You don't say whether the 14000# is dry weight, loaded weight, or gross weight but you should be fine with an 18K or above hitch. How much you want to pay will pretty much dictate what you end up with. I have a Curt Q5 20k myself. Lastly, can't speak for all brands but the stock controller in my Ford works great. No need for aftermarket.

Hope this helps.

Franko is spot on.

Dont waste the extra $ for a slider hitch. Have one on my short box and have never used it. 18k or greater for you should do the trick. Sliders are needed in short box trucks on 5'ers that do not have an extended king-pin.

Check Craigslist list for a used hitch. Lots of good quality used hitches available, both sliders and non sliders.

B&W Companion 18K. Nothing in bed when removed. Never wonder if it is hitched!!!!!!! All the trucks with bed damage that I have seen have a handle that sticks up and towards the side if the truck, example Reese.
Buy a 2012 RAM MAX TOW and you will have the ultimate towing machine and hitch! Integrated brake system electric or electric over hydraulic and light or heavy options. Integrated exhaust brake and the mighty Cummins engine that will outlast anything else by far. You will love the TrailAir pin box.
