I use the personal hotspot feature on my Iphone 4s with 5GB mthly plan. It costs $50 per month. Had been paying $30.00/mth any way for my data plane, so changing to this plan resulted in a net increase of $20/mth. (It helps me feel better to think about it that way!)

Verizon MIFI. Limited to 5 gig but we rarely go over, only when we update our Garmen GPS maps. Have good service anytime we have cell phone service. And the 4G is plenty fast for what we do. And much more secure than wifi found at campgrounds.

Verizon Mi-Fi. We've used it all over the US. If you have good cell phone signal you will get internet. I can also use it to connect my Kindle and purchase books without having to connect the Kindle to the computer. Other devices can also connect via the Mi-Fi (up to 5 devices). If you plan on going to remote places the Wilson Sleek signal booster (Walmart) works well.

Verizon Droid tethered to my laptop via PDAnet. I'm still on my original contract, renewed every year. "Unlimited" data (actually 5Gig) and I never make a dent in it, for $29/mo.

Simple, cheap, secure, and all I need.

I bought a usb modem from ATT. It works where ever their 4g network is. Their plan, like verizons is 5gig a month but I have not come close to that. Whenever I move I just check their coverage in the area. No phone is required.

PdaNet or Foxfi on Droid smart phone. Free and uses the phone's data package. Of course I discovered it a week AFTER I signed up for Verizion MiFi for two years at $50 a month.

That's two tanks of diesel or at least two months of camping, &@-/$&. It all.

I mean, why do something for free when I can pay $600 a year? Duh!

Check out http://www.millenicom.com/ I'm told (users on the Datastorm board) they actually are reselling Verizon bandwidth. Can't hardly beat the price for the amount of bandwidth you get.

I generally use park wifi when I can as it usually is faster than 3g, but when I can't I use a Millenicom 3g 20gb per month data plan (Verizon network) with a Novatel U760 modem. But as I also have a Droid X smart phone with data plan on the Verizon network, I am thinking of dropping the Millenicom service and just using foxfi to unlock the phones hotspot for when I need 3g. I also employ a WiFi Ranger with the Boost system to greatly help pull in wifi and then to route it to our our various devices. Will update to 4g in about another year when my current contract with Verizon is up.

Thanks everyone.

We have ATT for our smart phones. Just getting input for the laptops as my wife does all her bills online.

If all I wanted internet to pay bills with, before I signed up for a mobile hot spot I would see if my bill paying service had an app for my smart phone and try that to pay bills.

Since I don't "full time" I have an Ipad with 3g service and only activate it when I take a trip. Does everything the wife and I need the internet for. I get one gig for $20 which is good for a month, this has been plenty of data for us so far.
