My Onan Marquis 5500 Gold, is in our 2006 Class'A' MoHo. I excercise it each month for about 2 hours with both ACs running as a load. This month it stopped running after about 10 minutes. It will restart, run fine for anywhere from 5 to 30 minutes. I replaced both fuel filters about a year ago because of a leakeage problem. I have no leaks now.
The voltage & Frequency are fine as measured inside the MoHo with a Kill-O-Watt meter plugged into a wall outlet. There are no Diagnosis Code showing. It just stops as if I hit the stop button. It will stop even if I have no load on it.
Question; Should it show a Code if it is suddenly running out of gas? The 75 gallon tank is full.
Should it show a Code if it is Overheating?

I would also check your oil pressure switch.

Is it producing AC voltage. If not it will not run.

Re: Low Oil Pressure Circuit Test: First, Do you have an Onan repair manual for your generator? If you don't you should get one. It should have the test procedure for your model. My Onan dealer emailed me one for free. You could also try Googling "Onan Control Board Operation" by Duane M. Simmons. The site is a document and gives a step-by-step procedure which may be helpful for you. Compare it to the schematic for your board before testing. (I was going to just cut and paste but I didn't want to upset Mr. Simmons.)

On Edit: I forgot to also mention flightsystems.com They have an excellent troubleshooting guide and control board reference. I bought a new board from them a while back and they were very helpful.
Good luck with your repair.

Well...I finally got a Fault Code readout. Don't know Y it doesn't give one each time it stalls out. The Fault Code is 36 indicating that its out of fuel. I suspected it was loosing fuel for some reason. Fuel tank has 75 gallons. It still runs perfectly for about 25 minutes and dies. ??? Can a fuel pump run perfectly for that long and just stop working? The Onan 5500 Gold has 450 hours on it.

It is probably the fuel filter. Remove it and try to blow into it. Try blowing on a new filter to see the difference. Tap the old filter on your hand from the back side and look for any dirt or rust.

Try to replace the fuel line with a clear plastic one. You may have some rubber fuel hoses with cracks in them on a 6 year old unit. You may also have a fuel pump piston seizing up due to scoring on the cylinder or piston. The easiest way to check is with a clear plastic fuel line.
