I'm wanting to buy a Mark 8000 water softener for my MH. It won't fit in the compartment, so I'll have to hook it up on the ground before the water goes into the utility compartment, like others I've seen. I don't see any way to lock it. Has anyone heard of those things being stolen? Has anyone found a way to secure them? Is this something to worry about?

I put a chain on mine just for dressing. No one has ever bothered with it.

If you're really in a seedy place and worried it'll walk, fill your tank with it and put it away. Problem solved.

Dealer took my water softner and mounted it in the storage compt. He put by pass kit on it such as would be on hot water heater. Course if you don't have room for it it is a different matter. Definitely works well.

Gads, I've been worrying about my new Winegard Carryout Satellite Dome walking off but hadn't given any thought to the water softener doing the same thing. Always something to worry about isn't there?

I'd stick a security chain on it and call it done. A tweaker will realize it can't be cut off with bolt cutters and look for something else. A professional thief will not waste his/her time.
If it is a really nasty place, I'd do as above -- fill the FW tank and then stow it, or find yourself a better CG.

Place it if you can inside a new clean sewer hose no one will even think of touching it.
