What would be a good smoker for a novice for camping. I am looking for something for smoking turkey legs and other things while camping.

I'll tell you something better...

Information source...

BBQ Bible Forums...

You will find a subgrouping of a lot of different types of smokers. You can get all kinds of helpful tips on how best to use them, along with recipes and such. I elected to go with a Chargriller w/Side Fire Box...and made some modifications based on the Forum members suggestions. There's never been a bad meal come off that smoker.

But, there are all types...and some will maybe be better for your needs, than others. It's a great source to find out what's out there for you though.

When I win the Lottery...I'll get a Fat 50 from Diamond Plate Products. My brother had one...until theives cut the chain and towed it away. Anyway, that thing can cook a huge amount of food.

For a novice? Hard to beat the simplicity of a Bradley smoker.

We have a SS electric brinkman. You can pull them up online and order one.Get the shorter version. It cooks quicker. They also make a metal one but the SS last longer.

Good for cooking anything as long as outdoor temp above 45 degrees I'd say, otherwise tough 2 regulate temp.
The key with a Bradley is to NOT over-smoke. I use only 3-4 briquettes to smoke generally imparting the smoke at first start up (buying the fake aluminum pucks to push your last briquette off the smoke plate/burner is key) then cook low n slow at about 250 til internal temp at desired according to meat you're cooking. Most folks IMHO smoke too much or don't remove their burnt wood chips and tat imparts a foul flavor IMO. Bradley prevents that. Which is why it is great for the hobby/novice smoke-cooker IMO.

I like hickory or apple.

Price? Unsure. I'd suggest eBay. I keep getting them as gifts so haven't bought any in quite some time.

Another very nifty little grill-smoker is called The Egg. But for 25 lbs or less it's hard to beat the Bradley. A few purists will poo poo it but heat and smoke is all one needs to make stuff taste good, they just like to torture themselves. Lol
ps I'm kinda one of those purists too so don't tell anyone I use a Bradley too! Lol!

The Big Green Egg. Easy to use, short learning curve and can hold temp for hours without adding additional lump charcoal. Check out www.greeneggers.com. I have three and they have a cult like following. Will be using my small one when I camp if I ever get my TT.

I will second the big green egg I have 2 large and medium. The medium stay in the camper not only is it a smoker its a grill and oven there is nothing that can't be cooked on it.
