Our '94 Allegro bus generator does not work. Based on the sounds
it made b/4 it completely stopped working I believe the starter
is shot.
Can anyone tell me how much I can expect for this repair?
Thank you for your help

HERE is one for a little over $40. I don't know if it will fit your genset but it's an Onan starter. Others are similarly priced but others are up around $150.

Are you doing the work yourself or paying someone else to change it for you?

Unfortunately, I am not able to do this myself. So yes, I was interested in what a shop might charge.
There are several other things I need done, not huge, but they
may be time consuming.
Thank you.

I found that I had a lose ground cable on my genset....the cable that bolts to the chassis. It also sounded as if the starter was going...would sometimes start, but was sporatic.
I happened to be at the genset when I was priming/starting it with some SeaFoam in a jug, when I saw some sparks from the ground cable.

Once I tightened cleaned and tightened the cable connections, everything was fine.

You may want to check that first....it will only take you a few minutes, and won't cost you a dime. VERY EASY repair, if you've got a wrench......if you don't, it's worth buying one

Good Luck
