that is one reason I would not want a hard wired surge protector unless it has a bypass system available. on low voltage you still can operate lights, etc. with no great harm.

i figure that is why i maintain my house battery bank, and have a generator...plus usually at least a half tank of fuel and a GPS to get away from THAT CG! LOL

So what I understand then is you will need two units.. One for when plugged into 50 amp and another for when plugged into 30 amp service. Is this correct ?

Stupid newbie question, but what should the voltage meter read if it's normal? I'm very new to all of this, bought the EMS protector that looks like this one:

Geez, I hope not. I plugged my 50a into the EMS then plugged the EMS into a 30a adaptor then plugged it into the pedestal, our elec only site had 30a and 110v. When the 30a circuit died last week I plugged the 30a into a 15a adaptor and ran one A/C. Makes sense to me but then again I'm new to the EMS. I looked through the literature that PI provided and it didn’t say not to do it.

No just one unit.
If your coach is 50 amp. You purchase the 50amp model
If 30 amp, you purchas the 30 amp model.

You use adapters at the shorepower pedestal to adapt between the two.
Just as you do when plugging in your powercord.

How do those who have purchased the Progressive Industries 50 amp unit secure it at the pedestal. I have a short heavy chain and pad lock I'm planning on using by wrapping the pedestal and putting the pad lock through the chain and the piece of metal attached to the unit, but I would like to know if there is better way of doing it.

We have the portable version. Approximately (1) week after buying ours in the early 2000's, we went on a vacation and the first night we stopped in a cg and upon wakening the next morning, discovered out power was out. Checked with the office and he indicated that they had been having low power issues recently. Bottom line, low power had shut us down when it got below 102 volts. Wouldn't leave home without one. Water pressure regulator is another one.
