Ok I'm the guy who had the thread about my Fuzion only coming with a 12 volt starting battery which would die very quick when using lights or anything with a 12 volt pull. Been in discussions with my dealer and they are refunding me for what battery I decide to buy.

Now for the question...I have the on-board Onan generator which is what the 12 volt start battery was for and I'm going with 2-6 volt batteries. Will there be any problem starting the generator with the 2-6 volts. From what I understand the generator will still recharge the batteries just like it did the 12 volt starting battery.

Thanks for your time.

The Onan will crank just fine with the batteries at an adequate level of charge. Unless things have deteriorated, the last pair of T-105's I tested on a VAT 40 yielded 475 CCA @ 5C.

2 6v batteries will be plenty to crank an Onan. Assuming they aren't depleted, of course.

No problem cranking an onan with the pair of GC2. And these will also get low on charge as regular incandecsent lights use up a lot of power. If you can fit the two GC2 in addition to the small 12v for starting you will never be stuck. And consider some LED lighting to reduce your power draw by 80 percent.

The generator does not recharge the batteries. This is more than a terminology nitpic. The gen provides 120v Ac to a charger which makes "12v" that charges the batteries. Some Onans have a modified wave form that reduces charger amps below spec and so takes longer to do a recharge. You might notice this with a pair of 6s now (or not)

Some even use a small Honda to get its pure wave form to power their converter or charger besides for having less generator noise than the big gen makes.

Thanks, I would like to keep the 12 volt for a generator starting battery also but I'm little confused on the setup. All the wiring is harnessed together and very hard to follow which ones go to just the generator. I'd hate to wire it up wrong and get something crossed.

Any advice on wiring it up this way.

You could leave the 12v starter with the gen, add the two 6s for house, and put a switch between the 6s and the 12 and the converter.

The converter will charge them all whenever you have 120v from gen or shore, but the 12v can stay up in charge while you run down the 6s off grid. That way, you have less chance of having low house batts and they won't start the gen so you can fix that.

I carry a battery jump box with me in case I should ever run my two T105's down to the point they won't start the generator. It obviously can be used for my TV or other toys if necessary.
