We had Hail damage on our trailer, and we were looking to trade it in on a bigger one when hail the size of baseballs hit, we got about 6 dings, nothing serious. We got a check and just sent it to the bank to put towards our loan. Why fix it if we are getting rid of it. Wondering if that will show up on any report(s) if we trade it in now? Thank Goodness for insurance.
Thanks for the replies! Right now I'm waiting on the adjuster to call and set up a timing for the inspection. They are very backed up due to all the claims with this storm (the RV storage place was a mess...broken pieces of trailers EVERYWHERE!). So it may be a few weeks before I even hear what he/she has to say about the damage. Going to get the ladder out and look at the roof this weekend. The two sides with major damage have golfball sized dings all over...not 1 square inch of siding was spared. Even the little power outlet station on the outside of the door was broken beyond repair! I'm amazed none of the windows appear to have any cracks or breaks! It's supposed to rain tonight, so I'll see if there is evidence of any leaks on Wednesday.
I'm just hoping they at least cover the balance due on my loan, and I may just walk away at that time...unless there's a really tempting low price to buy it back as salvage. Was already thinking of trading to a motorhome, but may wait a bit before getting another RV for now. I'll keep you posted as I learn more. Meanwhile, please keep sharing your stories and tips. I want to be as prepared as possible when they come to inspect and make any offer.
By the way, someone mentioned working with other claims adjusters if I don't like the offer. Can you explain how that works?? Never heard of that before...

Many insurance companies hire independent adjusters to settle claims for them. Some are listed in the yellow pages, or you can check around. They are also available to do independent appraisels . Since these guys may know the local market better than regional company guys, they may get you a better offer. So if you question your settlement, simply say thank you, "I'd like to get another opinion before I settle". They may up the offer, limit, your acceptance window, or say fine. Whatever the response, you now know who you're dealing with and can act accordingly. Good luck.

Same happened to us. Estimate came in at $11K to replace all aluminum siding. Ins co totalled the unit, sent the check to the lein-holder, which paid off the loan. We bought the trailer back from the insurance company for $2k. Other than cosmetic damage, cant even tell. Best thing that could have happened to us, honestly.
One thing to not overlook is the damage to the outer roll of the awning. Our adjuster overlooked that. Outer roll had many holes in it. we patched them, but it would have added another grand or so to the insurance estimate.
Ok, so Allstate calls me today and asks me if I know of a good body shop in the area that could come take a look at the damage. They apparently don't have an adjuster in my area (I'm in the southeast end of Denver...not timbuktu!).
Does anyone on here know of a good RV repair place in the Denver area? The only places I know of are Camping World affiliated (I bought the trailer from their Loveland dealership, but that's an hour north of here and the trailer isn't street legal for me to even tow it there).
Again, thanks in advance!
Allstate may be overwhelmed by claims and can't schedule you in a timely manner. In some cases, insurers will cut a check without question. You might also check a commercial truck and trailer repair shop. Don't limit strictly to rv dealers.

Look up the quality dealers in your area. Ask them if they do repair on body damage. Some will. This could work to your advantage because it has been my experience the independent adjusters typically low ball you because they want the insurance co to continue using them. They try to save the insurance co money. The shop doing the work will give an estimate that they feel comfortable with. Better than being squeezed by the adjuster.
Curious what area of town you store your TT in? I was expecting what you saw when I went to check on our TT last week, but the storm must have skipped over our storage yard (knock on wood). I live about 7 miles south of our storage yard and our house got pounded.
We had a jayco that was hit while parked several years back, we took ours to K&C and the adjuster stopped by just to inspect the damage and cut me a check based on the repair quote from the dealer. At that time K&C had a golden location which has now been mergered into the camping world location. So I can't comment on thier work anymore. I would say stick with the companies that specialize in RV's like the big dealers. I know RV America, Windish and Steve Casey all have body shops but I don't have any experience with them.
