If I were going to get a battery gauge I'd choose either a Smartgauge or a Victron. But I find a simple volt meter with xx.xx read out meets my needs. +1, I spent the battery monitor money on more battery. Lots more leeway with 4 vs 2 or 1.
Digital voltmeter is sure cheap (I think I saw them for $4), but, correct me if I'm wrong - it only shows Volts, Amps and Ohm. It doesn't show Amp-hours or Watt-hours.

Voltmeter just shows volts. You must mean multimeter. Actually I often find my oem four light indicator to be fine to know when to charge. Although some are better than others.

Thanks Cedarhill. I have a meter like yours I use for my RC planes so I'll do the same with some RC connectors. I have a TC so access is different than yours but am sure I'll find it easy to do. Mostly interested right now in keeping an eye on a solar system.

Hi,
If you must have one get the Victron. It measures more accurately and is cheaper.

Yep. $130 Victron 600 doesn't look any worse than $160 Trimetric, and includes shunt. Either one is nicer than Turnigy, and can be mounted wherever you want, far away from battery. Victron can only be mounted flush, if I'm correct.

No kidding, the Turnigy wasn't designed or marketed for RV use.

I use a Tri-metric, but only because I got it cheap as part of a craigslist score. In the past I've used simple volt and amp meters I bought from Allied Electronics.

Has anyone added a monitor and what system can you recommend. I think something with different functions would be a plus.
If you're looking to monitor your engine battery and even possibly your house batteries we just bought one of these little gadgets.
12volt lighter socket battery monitor
You plug it into your lighter socket and it will tell you the voltage.

Hi Grub,
The volt meter at Walmart is cheaper and does xx.xx so a little better choice I think.
