Jim, thanks for posting up your results. I'm liking the LED's enough to try them in other areas. I was thinking that LED rope or strip lighting on the exterior may be a good deal. Also, some LED lighting near the tounge where I have a wiring distribution box and such would be advantageous.

OK, I thought I would try these LED's out so I purchased the same as the original member from this post,EWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649">Warm white panel 48 smd LEDand the first that I noticed was the bulb sockets on my trailer were the BA15S (instead of the BA9S)so, I just took out the 1141 bulbs De-soldiered the contact on the bottom of each bulb, removed the glass bulbs, then, de-solidered the wires off the BA9S adapters, and soldiered to the original bases. The lights work great....with one exception, when I have the light switches on that are on the actual light fixture but, have the light switch off on the wall, the LED's are glowing very dimly. The only way to prevent this is to turn the lights off at the fixture itself and, this is a inconvenience. Has anyone else had this problem? My only conclusion is that I upgraded my converter to a PD9260 w/wizard and the fuse panel is now all 12 volt filtered. ...Any suggestions?

thanx, Jlew

I searched ebay for that base, led, warm white and got 4 pages.

clicky

There is lots more in bright white including one that has 120 SMD LEDs for $5. I might just change the scare lights socket.

I think he means the ones with the double contacts on the base. I plugged in one of my single contact LED bulb and blew the fuse. I have 2 lamps, one on each side of the bed, that use 2 bulbs each with the double contacts. I have yet to find an LED bulb that would work in these lamps. Any ideas?

Glad to have found this link. Im redoing all the lights in our MH and had been lurking on some different LED pages. I really like that these have 3 different adapters and I really loved the price. Now I have to go and buy the rest of my clam shells to get them hard wired and ready for the LEDs to come in.

Thanks for the info and the photos.

Could you post a image of the bulb and base it goes into?

I was thinking about this and at first thought you had a dual filament bulb like on a car, running and brake lights. The fact that you blew a fuse when shorting the two contacts makes me think the contacts are the + and - connectors and the single lead touched both and shorted it out.

YOu could always change the base if you can't find bulbs to fit.

I found this bulb on Ebay that has a double contact:
EWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649">http://www.ebay.com/itm/320865793629?ssP........t="" />EWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649

They will not arrive in time for our trip but I ordered them anyway. These are the last of the incandescent bulbs inside the RV. I am not worried about the driving lights as they are only on when the engine is running anyway.

The fixture in question has 2 bulbs in it and a 3 way switch. I think the double contact on the bulb allows the voltage to pass through allowing the other bulb to be switched on and off or work when the one burns out.

I replaced several of my bulbs with these but have been very cautious about leaving them on in an unattended camper since someone posted a picture showing how they burned right through the plastic and paneling. All that is left is a charred hole in the ceiling. I tried to find the picture on the forum but have been unsuccessful. Maybe someone else can come up with it.

Mike

If you are thinking of the same picture I am then that was a incandescent bulb that did that damage to a truck camper. Some one had posted it in a LED thread and another poster corrected it. I know I freaked out when I saw it too.

I've had both the types of LED that I bought on for 4+ hours at a time and they never got more than warm to the touch at the lens. I had a incandescent on for 30 minutes and even at the lens, it was hot enough that had I kept my hand there, it would have burnt me.

I also haven't had the double stick tape fail (yet) but I never run the lights while charging the battery so the LEDs never see the high voltages the converter puts out.

This may be the thread you were thinking about, i'll try to post the images here too.

FWIW those pictures are from a thread started by DiscoChicken regarding warranty claim on a new truck camper. Those fixtures were overheated with the OEM supplied lamps. I wouldn't make any assumptions without verification from DiscoChicken.

Here is the thread;

These are the images I was talking about. Again, the damage was caused by incandescents not LED
