I am about to buy my first new TC and thought I'd discuss my frustration here with feeling like I'm not being treated fairly.

Don't get me wrong... I WANT to dealer to make a living and be able to keep their doors open so they'll be there for service and warranty work when I need them, but I don't want them to make it all on me.

I decided that I'd get a new Palomino Bronco B600 and contacted a dealer for a quote.

He quoted me an MSRP of over $12,800 and the rest of the stuff he was going to install, although it seemed high to me, I could live with that pricing.

I shopped around for this TC and found MSRP prices all over the board but it seems that the lowest was here....
http://www.truckcampermagazine.com/buyers-guide:-palomino-pop-up/
Note that this page lists the MSRP as $7451.

Then there's NADA Online....
http://www.nadaguides.com/RVs/2012/Palomino/BRONCO-600/6016647/Standard-Equipment

Here it is for $7195
http://www.theoutpostrv.com/dealerfiles/listingview.asp?ListingID=120

Here's a 1251 that sold for about a thousand less than MSRP.

Can someone please help me shop for a reasonable price or at least verify MSRP for this camper? I want it outfitted with the 1350BTU AC and frig.

I'd be willing to buy a very clean used one if the price was good too... I've been looking for almost a year and here in NW Florida TC's are as rare as hen's teeth.

Thanks,
Bob

Probably why the price is so high.

Thats a typical problem for us east coast buyers. Fewer dealers and they know it. Its tough to get a "deal" as compared to buyers on the west coast. Im talking from experience. If and when I ever buy again, I will make a trip out west and incorporate it as a vacation. I understand for some that is more difficult, but if you can do it, I'm sure you will save plenty, enough to pay for your trip and then some.

I bought my Bronco 1200 at New Horizons Outdoor outside of Atlanta - they claim to be the biggest truck camper dealer in the southeast. http://www.newhorizonsoutdoors.com/

They are about a 3 hour drive for me - so not what I would call close by.

It took a full day to modify my truck, so I dropped it off the night before, spent a night in a nearby hotel, and went back to New Horizons in the afternoon.

The camper was a 2011 model on the lot, and they gave me (what I think is) a great deal. About 3 weeks later an RV dealer closer to me started carrying Palomino TCs, and they confirmed it was a deal they could not touch.

I found New Horizons to be honest, and fairly easy to deal with. You may want to call them and see if it is worth a trip.

I had the same questions of "their" pricing vs ebay, etc. I think when I added up the options and installation I was convinced I was getting a very fair deal. The NADA pricing was the one thing that seemed low - but there were enough other internet hits to convince me that their data may be wrong.

Good luck - I hope you are as happy with yours as I am with mine! There is a pic of it in the sticky picture thread in this forum.

Took me a year to find a short bed camper in souteast Florida.

I ended up getting a much bigger unit then I wanted but paid $6k less then what the owner wanted for it.

The trick is to buy used in Florida from a private owner.

My first unit was a 95 Sportman KZ. It was stored in a warehouse since new. I purchased it for $1500.00 The toilet still had a tag on it.

I will second the competency of New Horizons Outdoors. We bought our 830 from them and compared to a dealer here in North Fl for the same model , equipped with less options, we saved over $10,000. Just have to be patient and be willing to travel.

We made the 5.5 hour trip to buy and Steven there is a very nice person to deal with.

WOW!!! Thanks for the great advice... The dealer I've been working with assures me that I won't beat his price but now I'm encouraged that I definitely WILL.

I don't mind driving a few hours to get a better deal. In fact I'll make that the maiden voyage for the camper.

I'll let y'all know how it goes...

If you buy from a dealer remote from your home, be sure to allow time to check out everything, that is camp in for a few days, near the dealer, before going home. Don't want to have to drive back if you don't have to.
