This is a photo of a "nut" that holds the rear ladder on my son's motorhome. The nut is pushed into the ladder pipe, and then the flange is threaded into the nut and the flange is screwed to the rear of the coach. Some of these "nuts" have rusted out and are no longer useable. Does anyone know what these are called, and where I can get them. The thread is 1/4"-20. Thanks

Today is my personal best for most consecutive days alive.

Just finished the same task on my ladder. I purchased some horizontal tubes from Walts RV in CA. They were the wrong ones to fit my installation but I was able to push the spreader nuts (for lack of the correct term) and re-insert them in my application. Then I found a prior forum query and found that that spreader nut is a common item used by bike shops for some application. Just measure your tube and check at a bike shop for the "spreader nuts".
BTW: Let us know what the correct term is

factoryrvsurplus.com.

also, buy all new bolts; 1/4-20 X 3 inch. i recommend flatheads for the inside ones. rv only has the round heads. hardware store will cover the flatheads. mark all your ladder tubes as my streetsides were 1/2 shorter than the curbside. to get the new ones in the tubes i used a deepwell socket and a hammer. start to finish was 2 hours as i had to dremel the old bolts out. rvsurplus is great to work with and they ship fast.

I have not a clue what they are. If it was me, I would take them into my local hardware store. If they don't have it, at least they would either know what it is, or know what you could use instead.

Most bicycle repair shops also carry them, usually under the label "Star Nut".

I would go to your local Home Depot and get yourself some rubber nuts. You'll find them in the drawers in the middle of the screw aisle. Easier to use, more secure and watertight......Dennis

Here's what they look like....I used them a lot when building street rods..they come in many different sizes, are not expensive, won't rust and can be removed if necessary......D
