Im buying used. I'm on a strict budget. I found a used Jayco 26bh. I believe The gvw is 7500. I'm getting that trailer but I want to make sure I get enough truck. I found a 98 dodge ram with a magnum v8 long bed quad cab long bed. It's in fantastic condition with lower miles at 85k. Is this enough truck? Thanks for the help.

Half ton or three quarter ton truck? Either would probably do the job. But truck age will make some difference due to constantly changing tow ratings.

Any full sized truck with model/series starting with at least 2 (i.e. 250, 2500/3500). Skip the half tons from that era. The most capable ones will be borderline, and finding the needle in the haystack in excellent condition is not fun.

If it's a 1/2 ton it will be over it's tow rating once loaded, if it is a 3/4 ton the 5.9 is going to be run through the wringer a bit but will get the job done. One thing about the 5.2's and 5.9's is that they are absolutely bullet proof. I loved my 2001 1/2 ton, 4x4, 5 speed and wish I still had it.

As long as it's a Dodge Ram it will pull anything. If I were going to buy a half ton for the job it would be a 2010 or newer.

Completely untrue and not helpful for someone looking to spend under $10k on a 10+ year old TV.

Ok thanks for the advice. The truck is a half ton original owner garage kept with low ish mileage for its age and it's in excellent condition. But if it won't pull then I'm not sure it'll work.

I'd need more details before I answer.
Is it a 1500 or a 2500?
What is the axle ratio?
Is it a 5.2L or a 5.9L?
There is a big difference in towing ability between a 1500/5.2L gas/3.55 truck and a 2500/5.9L gas/4.10 truck.

Consider what the truck itself will be carrying as well, not just what it will tow. Since you're buying a bunkhouse I assume you have kids? As well as wife and whatever you put in the truck bed i.e. chairs, BBQ, firewood etc. plus the tongue weight of the TT. A half-ton/1500 will get over loaded real quick. I would keep looking for a 2500/250. Good luck in your search.
On edit- I guess if you just camp local a few times a year and aren't going to run it hard or long you should be ok with that truck. Just make sure you've got a good hitch set up (weight distribution).
