On June 9th 2012 our family of 6 were on vacation driving on hwy 395 in the eastern sierra mtns. We were towing a 30 ft 5th wheel trailer. At about 1:00 pm both right side tires on the trailer blew. We called Good Sam and first spoke to "Brian" Brian told us he would locate tires and a mobile tire service to assist us. About one and a half hours no progress. Brian told us he had located two tires in Mammoth but they were the wrong size slightly smaller. Stuck and out of options we agreed to take the wrong size tires. Brian then turned us over to the rv specialist "Candice". Candice told us that the shop with the tires did not have mobile service and she was going to call around to find help. Now three hours no help no tires I called Candice back and she said she was having problems with the mobile service but she would send the Highway Patrol. I told her that I was retired police and we did not need the CHP, tires only. A short time later the CHP arrived and he was told by Good Sam that we needed a ride to pick up tires. we appologized and sent him on his way. A passing stranger stopped and offered our adult son a ride to the closest town of Lee Vining 2.8 miles away. Our son called us from a service station and said that they have the correct size tires and mobile service. This service station was also Good Sam approved but they would need a call to authorize the tow dispatch. I now made my at least the 5th call to Good Sam to speak to Candice who did not want to speak as she was on the phone trying to find us tow assistance. I told the dispatcher we had arranged our own tow and correct sized tires she only needed to call for the authorization. I gave her the service station name, phone number and who to talk to. She, now angry said they had already been called and refused to help us. bottom line they never asked if the station had tires, but wanted them to drive to another town pick up the wrong tires and provide the mobile service. Candice then said she would only authorize a one way trip to help us we would have to pay to have the new tires put on ourselves. Good Sam really. Were done!

Maybe, maybe not. We've only heard one side of the story.

Thank you for the post Rowdydogg. We apologize for the lack of assistance during your recent disablement. We look at each one of these as an opportunity to improve the service we provide to all of our members. Although that may seem hard to believe after we failed you, I promise we take these very seriously. Member complaints are not only resolved but each one is also used as a training tool for future roadside assistance calls. I would like the opportunity speak to you concerning your request. Please send me a private message with your Good Sam information and I will contact you to discuss this complaint. Thanks, Zach

Why would your son take a ride with a stanger when you had a Tow Vehicle?

Wish there was a good answer or alternative. We were in highway 101 near Port Angeles in Washington this summer at an RV park when our jacks would not retract. At that time I had just changed to CoachNet. They spent over an hour trying to find a mobile service mechanic. They finally called the park we were in to get a recommendation for a mechanic. Great guy, very helpful, but we had to pay in full for his service. Previously, with AAA, I had a flat tire (drove over a boat plug which made a really big hole) and was told it would take 3 to 4 hours for a service truck to come out to a spot just north of Astoria, Oregon. While waiting, I decided to walk across the street to the Texico station. They found a tire for the MH in town and had me on the road in about an hour.
I just signed up for Good Sam to cover me for emergencies for our travels for the next three years. Truthfully, I don't expect much, but it is at least a number to call and hopefully they will come to my assistance or offer a resonable alternative.
In my mind ERS is like all insurance, it is best to have it and to never ever need it.
Happy Trails.

At least you spoke to someone that tried to help. In the early '90's GS left me stranded on the highway in NC when my tow dolly wheel lugs came off and I could not tow. I finally limped to an off ramp where I stayed at a mall all week end until I finally spoke to a local and was able to locate a shop around the corner that had a rim my size. I will never trust GS no-service again.

I had three separate occasions where I lost an inside dually on my Class C. Good Sam responded to all even though I was in the middle of nowhere on one of them. Service can be problematic depending on location no matter who you contract with.

newlee tow vehicles have to be unhitched.

Unhitching just sounds like a better alternative than taking a ride with a stranger.
