Putting the slides that are needed out has never been a problem

That might be acceptable in an area that is not crowded. On the other hand, at rest or fuel stops that become full as the night progresses, those requiring their slides to be extended should, in my opinion, make every effort to use up only a single parking slot.

The OP was talking about Wal-Mart ..and even truck stops have wide truck spaces where one slide out wouldn't be a problem. The Wal-Marts that allow overnight have you park in an out of the way place away from the door and Ive NEVER had a feeling anyone with slide out or taking a space and a half in a Huge Wal-Mart parking lot corner overnight with no (0) Traffic was a problem. Common sense ( not available to many I guess) would say not to take up all the space in a Crowded truck stop lot.AND if you dont need a slide to be out to crawl into bed then leave it in.

My post's are my opinion The advice, comments etc are free and worth what you paid

Agree. We use Wal Mart's a lot for short overnights. If no one is there already we check, or even ask the roving security guard. We park where directed, don't leave a mess, usually shop for a bit that night or in the am. We run the slides out and run the genny, we always put down large boards for the landing gear so as not to mar the asphalt. I've usually found at least a half dozen RV's in the lot when I awaken. I figure it works to everyone's benefit. We park, we leave no mess, we are moving around and help keep the undesirables away (activity is not their friend) and we spend a few bucks. For that, we get a decent safe place to stop for a few hours sleep.

Not sure if staying in a parking lot is boondocking?? I have stayed a number of times in truck stops. As someone else mentioned try to find a space on the perimeter of the lot and then run the slide out. I only have a single slide so its not much of a problem. Double slides in a truck space might be a problem. In my opinion there are enough truck stops, rest stops, vacant lots, etc that make staying in a Walmart unnecessary.

We put the slides out over the landscaping as well and run the gennie also for the ac. I stay overnight at a WM or flying J 1,2 times a yr so specifically buying a floorplan that gave me access to everything when closed up was no priority of mine. We do go in and ask permission first.

Someplaces I rarely hear people mention for overnight stoping spots are church parking lots. There are more to choose from, they feel safer, they are quieter, they have LOTS of room, and as long as I leave prior to Sunday services I've never been turned down. There is always a contact number somewhere on the church signage.

So much to experience, so little time.

And the smart churches have a donation slot on the door. :-)

I would not think that extending a slide in a truck stop would be a real good idea.A trucker may accidentally take your slide out....out. The parameter may not be a good idea because now you may be a easy target for all those panhandlers, scammers and other nasties we report around truck stops. A nice campground may be the best idea..... do ya think..

We have never had any problem extending a slide or two in truck stops, rest area's, Walmarts, shopping centers, etc. Hadn't thought of using a church parking lot but that is a good idea. A $20 donation would save a whole lot of money over resting in a Walmart parking lot. Haven't ever rested in a Walmart parking lot where it didn't cost at least $100.00.

I don't know how to compare the safety of doing this on the West side of the Rockies vs the Eastern section of the country. But I can sssure you we have more than our fair share of crazies wondering around out here too. That is why our RV and inhabitants are also protected by Smith and Wesson. Make my day!

On the escapee's web site they have what is the etiquette for over night parking.

I use this as the standard.

You may not!
