My registration says a Ford cutaway motorhome. It is a 1999 Hurricane and it says 29 feet long on the specs label. 2 questions: Why is it called a cutaway Ford Motorhome when it is a Class A. I measured the length bumper to bumper and it is 34feet 8 inches. Do they not count the front driver part? Thanks in advance Jim

Those terms refer to the base chasis as delivered by Ford to the MH manufacturer, and not the final vehicle....

Suspect it is a Class C and not a Class A. Do you have driver and passenger van type doors.

Hurricanes are class A rigs. You need to check the vin number to verify. I beleive it is an error and should be an F53 chassis.
You should check it out before you need chassis parts.
I would not complain if they raise your tab fees if it is an F53 and not a cutaway van.

Length has no bearing on "Class"
Class A are on a Chassis with NO CAB
Never heard the term Cutaway, but a Class C is any vehicle that is on a modified VAN chassis. That means any chassis that has the Van Cab and front engine hood. Either way it should NOT mean anything for registration or taxes as it usually is the length and weight and price that determines that. Doug

Cutaway is a very common term to describe a van type cab without a body.
Cargo box tucks, U-Haul trucks and even the van chassis with a utility body start with a cut away chassis. They are called that since there is no back wall to the cab as it comes from the chassis manufacturer.

Almost...U-Hauls start as a cab-and-chassis, with a fully-enclosed and fully-equipped van cab. Motorhomes & shuttle buses start as a cutaway, with an incomplete cab that is often essentially stripped (no carpet, visors, etc) except for a temporary driver's seat.

Thanks for all the responses. This is my third Class A Motorhome and we had one Class C before that. I never had my first two Class A with the term "Cutaway" printed on the registration before and thought that was odd. This unit was imported from the U.S.A. to Canada. I guess someone made an error at that time. Oh well, let sleeping dogs lie as they say. The other thing I wondered about is how they determine the length. From bumper to bumper ? Inside on the manufacturing label it says 29 feet. I bought it as a 30 foot. No big deal one foot longer. It just suprised me that when I measured it bumper to bumper it was over 34 feet long. The only reason I measured the length was I was measuring my R.V. storage pad at the time to see just how long it really was because this unit seemed to take up alot of the space. I guess if I decide to buy a longer Motorhome I'll be measuring it from bumper to bumper first to see if it will fit into my RV storage pad. Thanks again Jim
