Hubby and I have stayed at walmarts and rest areas BUT we are wondering what other options there are as we contemplate doing more of this...and longer trips.
We want to stay for FREE. So far you get what you pay for at walmart and rest areas...noise!
So enlighten us...where else can we stay? Say we did a cross country trip from NY to Las Vegas to see son...what are our options?

- WalMart
- Flying J
- Cracker Barrel
- Casino's (best by far)
- Bass Pro shop
- Friends yard's.

Two laning the Western states you will find any number of free or really cheap small town cgs. Fairgrounds, rodeo grounds (during the week) and some great little city parks, some with hookups w/e usually. Plus the scenery is better than the interstates.

try freecampgrounds.com lots of ideas there. Coming north out of paige arizona last week I got tired and we just pulled into a really wide turnout along the highway and had a bite to eat and went to bed. Except for a few trucks that went by we had a good night.

There are too many state parks, national parks, corp of eng & city parks that offer camping with elec & water hookups....when they only charge $8-$12 on the average to camp....I wouldn't even go camping if I couldn't afford that....where do you find free fuel to get you places?

Grab a copy of "Don Wrights Guide to Free and Under $12.00 per Night Camping". Two volumes each with thousands of locations that fit the description but NONE of them are parking lots (not considered camping).
