I am new on here and I may have missed if this is answered already. I am going to be fulltiming with my family for 1 year and traveling the country. I am wanting to travel with a handgun but do not want to get in trouble from state to state. Does anyone have any suggestions regarding what can be done for traveling with a handgun? I am not planning on concealed on person at all. It is legal in AZ where I will be leaving from but I know each state is different. So planing on just leaving it in safe place in TravelmTrailer.
You will get a lot of yeas and nays on this one! I keep protection in my RV all the time. Have no desire to hurt anyone but if cornered, I will do what ever it takes to protect mt family.Don't know the laws for different states. My gun is registered so guess I'm not worried about having it in my rig. I don't worry about my rig being searched since I do nothing that would prompt a search.
Happy trails,

The tougest state is Calf. on hand guns. If you carry it in the vehicle it show be unloaded, the gun in a locked case, the shells seperate. If in you rv. be safe and do the same, but if you are parked, you can have it ready when needed. If you have a cwp, you can carry it with you at all times, except for schools, federal buildings, or any sign posted at the front of the building.
Check with local enforcement.

I noticed the prohibition in Ill has been exempted for politicians, it used to be in the City of Sacramento it was unlawful to transport a gun and ammo in the same vehicle, politicians exempt of course. Seems the NRA and all the sportsmens clubs got together and ended that law because they couldn't drive thru Sac on the way to hunt birds up in the valley or other animals in the Sierra and foothills. Talk about self serving laws.

Some states have concealed carry reciprocity with other states but not all. So if you have a carry permit be sure to check and know the law.
Once, before I had my carry permit, I was asked by a law enforcement officer if I had any weapons in my motor home. I answered "yes" and he then only asked what I had. I told him and it was no issue at all.
Don't think you will have any problem if when asked you tell them about it. Not sure about in CA, things seem to be a bit different out there.
Welcome to the forum, if you take the time you are in for an education in RV'ing.

I'm sorry, but Illinois is tougher. No carry permits at all. And the law will take it for little to no reason. DO NOT get caught with one in the city of Chicago or Cook County in general. You WILL go to jail. They WILL tow your car and RV and rip them apart looking for guns. Illinois does not honor carry permits from other states. I'm not blowing smoke. I do know what I'm talking about.
