I see a bunch of post of required license in different states. I live in Texas I have a Class C license and I am buying a Allegro Red 38QBA.
Do I need a differnet type of license ?

If your RV GCWR exceeds 26000 lbs, you will need a Class B. If you tow over 10000 lbs, you'll need a Class A. Both of these are non-CDL licenses. Even if your rig has air brakes, the air brake endorsment does not apply with RV's.

the_armadillo gave you the correct answer above. So if your new RV GCWR is 26,001 lbs or more you need a Class B.

This might bear a closer look.
Here is my understanding for requiring an upgraded license:
Above 26,000 lb GVWR OR, repeat OR GCWR (while towing > 10,000 lb) requires non-commercial Class A or B

• GAWR – Rear: 17,500 Lb.
• GVWR: 29,500 Lb.
• GCWR: 33,000 Lb.

HI, I just looked in the texas driver license hand book. On page 1-6 it does state the 26,001 lbs rule for the a and b license. On page 1-7 it states that rv driven for personal use is exempt from the requirement. No sizes, no air brakes. etc, no exceptions. A simple sentence line 4. A recreational vehicle driven for personal use is exempt. charlie in texas

You're looking under the CDL requirements. Look at pages 1-4 & 1-5.

Yo, Bob, that is good info, but it is about towing more than 10k lbs. Each paragraph states towing 10k or more. I am very careful when I answer a question on this forum. I agree that there is confusion on the rules, but I ask my brother in law, a DPS trooper, he said a motorhome is treated as a car in texas. There as so few of them that texas does not include them in their rules of CDLs. They also don't stop them because they always have all their legal stuff in order, and they follow the rules. charlie in texas.
