...and it has been quite temperamental the last year or two. We have a Reese which is apparently a Tekonsha in disguise, and the controller is about 7-8 years old now. I can't seem to set it - it will start out wildly seesawing between a reading of, say, 0.9 and 5.7, without my touching anything on it. I never quite know, when I apply the brakes with the trailer & its pigtail connected, if I will get a grabby 5.8 or a wimpy 1.6, or something in between. Had our "shakedown" campout this week, within 30 miles of home, and the controller never settled down, even though we used contact cleaner spray on both pigtail and the receptacle on the hitch.
My old controller got senile on me this year and I was advised here to buy a Prodigy P2 which I found on Ebay for $100 with free shipping. This is the most wonderful smooth operating easy to adjust controller I have ever owned. Replace it.

All of the major brands seem to have lifetime warranties, and great customer service. We have had several replaced at no charge for all kinds of different reasons. One even sent me a plug and play harness for my former truck along with the new controller even though it was hardwired to begin with. Gotta love it.
$100 on Ebay is not that much of a savings. Mine went south last year too and I replaced mine with another Prodigy. they are a very good controller even if they don't last forever, what what does these days

The Prodigy has a life time warranty. Do not understand why you did not take advantage of that!
Thanks, y'all. We'll try to check the contacts on the trailer pigtail and the truck hitch too, just to be sure - but after 7-8 years, it's probably time for a new controller too.
