I have had two right side freeze ups since 2010 and one on dr. side in 2010.Ford does not use s/s or aluminum cylinders in their calipers, as I called and asked. My local shop used calipers made in China which use material called phonic for their cylinders which is not working well, but neither is Ford's either, made in Canada and Mexico using the same type material. I'm sick of Mfs. charging such high pricess for junk made in other countries, especially China. I also don't use a dealership to put the same junk as an independent garage if the parts are the same junk and the independent garage is much, much cheaper on labor. Any input is appreciated especially if you mknow of anywhere I can get calipers with stainless steel cylinders.

The best calipers you can get are OEM Ford NEW (Not Reman) calipers.

They cost more, but is available off the shelf from your dealer parts counter.

If you don't ask, they sell you remans.

Go that route and your problems will disappear.

There is a coating on it that ablates over time --- but is not renewed in the reman process.

Those pucks are phenolic a type of plastic...they had problems with heat, swelling sticking. Ask your NAPA guy for rebuilts using stainless. They are available, you need the real NAPA guy, not the kid that looks up stuff on the computer and doesn't know...well you know. Sounds like you have lready BTDT.

Stainless is much better than the oem phenolic, we've also BTDT.

The bigger issue for you is probably the seals drying out from lack of use. E-series rigs rigs, Ambulances which are driven much harder than a motorhome, rarely have sticking caliper issues.

Phenolic pistons are used in almost all new OE brakes, because it doesn't corrode.

Also important with phenolic pistons to keep the brake fluid changed every 2 years if in a humid climate, 3 if you are in the desert.

Just ask Workhorse about that.

Have you replaced the front hoses? They can cause sticking calipers on E-series vans. The failure is that the hose collapses internally, the high pressure from the brake application can apply the brakes, but the collapse basically keeps the pressure in the caliper.

last year at the first state inspection for our rv since we owned it, we had to replace the discs (cracked), calipers (sticking, causing the discs to heat up and crack), pads (worn out from pressing against the discs all the time), and front hoses (who knows how hot they got?). also ball joints. 1700 bux! thats more than we paid for the rv!

get it fixed. parts is cheap, life aint!

And I'd add - Replace Front Brake Hoses while you're changing calipers.

I had to change the brake hoses and calipers with Ford factory calipers 2 weeks ago. It solved my issues.
