Hey guys I am starting to think about uprading my truck to a diesel. I am pretty familer with the Duramax as we have a couple at work but not so much with Dodge and Ford. Looking to keep it around $20,000. I know thats going to get me higher miles but with the right truck that won't bug me to much. So I guess my question is that if you had $20,000 to get a diesel truck, what would you be looking at? Thanks

Probably just check everyone's signature, cause we all know what is best (for us).

No regrets for the 7.3. Hard to find, but you should have $5K left over.

Sad to say, time to sell to a good home.

Stay away from Ford's 6.0L unless you're a gambler.

All three had good and bad years. Just understand which years to stay away from and go from there. Do a search and you should find this info.

Spotless 6.0 2007 model year, that meet my inspection.

Details of inspection available on request.

Eliminate any truck that is over 50,000 miles, not perfect OASIS, tuned, modded, lifted, customized in any way, and do not have documented Ford dealer service.

Or price it with a $15,000 discount over wholesale Fair Market Value.

Be careful with oversized tires & lifts, avoid tuned trucks. Just because the tuner is on 40 hp, doesn't mean it didn't spend most of its life on 200hp.

You might have read it but it's not true.

The truth about the 6.0 from Ford engineers.

These are emails from Ford engineers themself. Ford even admitted they were over spec on cylinder pressures among other things.

An oasis report is a warrantee report from Ford. Everything that was fixed by Ford is in this report. In short it is what work was done by Ford on any given truck.

I'd be looking at a 2001-2002 Dodge 3500 dually with 5.9 diesel and 6 speed NV5600. Should be able to find a very nice low mileage one in great condition inside and out, for less than $20K and pocket the rest.
