Forgot the hitch pin. The one that keeps the hitch locked to the car. Then drove 1:30 to the campground. Up and down 2000 feet through the mountains. Almost had a heart attack when I was unhitching at the campground.

If someone had told me this I wouldn't have believed it.

I guess the weight of the trailer kept things in place. Mythbusters should try this.

Friends at the campground will never let this go. I'm the one who is always worried about safety, weights, etc. Now they say at least they don't forget the hitch pin...

I've noticed on my towbar/hitch setup, that the pins always seem to ride more in one direction than the other. Once I determined which way each pin tends to move, I make sure that pin is inserted from the opposite side, so that even if the clip or lock should fail for some reason, the likelihood is that the pin will still stay in place. That doesn't replace a good inspection at each stop of course.

I doubt that you will ever do that again. Thats why the walk around is so important. Glad you made it safe. I'm sure its not the first time it has happened. Macktee

I did that once, and only once... I got half way out of my driveway, onto a fairly busy street, blocked it both ways for 10 minutes while I got my jack, raised the tongue, got the hitch back in and put the pin in... Lot's of horn honking...

Broke a pin last month on a man lift I was towing to do volunteer work. Smashed my tailgate so a $250.00 charity worked out to 1450.00. Insurance said it was better for me to pay it than file. Be like a pilot, write out a ck list for your TT.
