After procrastinating on a cover to keep rain & moist foggy weather out & summer storage venting, I finally bought a MaxAir2 cover for my Fantastic Vent fan, only to find that the Fantastic frame seems to be 1/2" wider than the mounting hardware of the MaxAir2 cover, and it won't fit without some metal work.

I exchanged it for the Fantastic Vent cover only to find out that the only way to mount this one is to cut away the Itasca factory sealant on the roof to attach it's mounts (the MaxAir mounts attach to the vent frame rather than requiring compromising the roof seal), and I ain't gonna do that.

So, question to the floor: Who has a 6000 series Fantastic Vent (I suspect they're all the same size) that has added a cover that didn't require cutting into the roof seal or modifying the mounts??

Hi,

I installed all my fantasitc fans, so cutting away the rubber roof sealant, then replacing it did not bother me at all. I did not have any fantastic fans from the factory.

I put on maxx air vent covers back in 1996, after trying a solar powered vent that covers a roof vent and had it's own fan inside it that was about 12" diameter, but did not move much air, and already having a 165 watt solar system did not need the additional expensive solar panel on the fan that was not effective at moving air in the daytime, and I don't recall if it connected to the battery for nighttime use.

Anyway I am really happy that I installed Maxx air covers, used rubber roof sealant on the brackets, then after that dried about 24 hours bolted on the new Maxx air covers.

My Fantastic fan roof vent covers are still intact, no cracks or UV breakdown, due to the covers protecting them.

Fred.

I used the Fan Mate cover by Maxx Air (specifically for high speed fans like fantastic fan) . It attached to the frame with 4 screws no problem. I love being able to leave the vent open in summer storage and using the fan in all weather conditions.

I have the same cover. Did not have to remove any seal because it fastens to the frame.

I put a Max cover (the newer style that you pull pins out on one side to lift the cover & clean) on my Winnebago / Fantastic Fan.

What I did was to lay the mounting brackets for the Cover on top of the sealant (and it is a silicone type from Winnebago) mark both sides of the bracket(s), then use a razor/utility knife to remove the sealant between the lines so the brackets would lay flush.

after everything was aligned & tightened down sealed over the brackets with RTV silicone.

Winnebago uses a self leveling silicone unlike any you can purchase in any local warehouse / store.

I used silicone to glue mine on and that was 40,000 miles ago.

Hopefully what you got is returnable. These are the covers that we're going to buy for our Fantastic Fans.

Still reading down the thread, but this was the 2nd one that was returned because it requires cutting into the seal which, as mentioned above is like nothing else avaliable, so I'm not gonna break whats not broke.
