Skip the 04, and go for the 07. Better motor. The LLY in the 2004 was only around for less than two years. Yes, used diesels are like gold, if they are well cared for they will fetch higher than book values. Just be sure that all recommended maintenance has been done, and that all updates have been performed. Other than that it is only a matter of replacing items as they wear out.

Mileage means nothing on a diesel...properly cared for diesels (as in verifying that and and all preventative maintenance has been completed) can go up to 300,000+ miles...
...and as the previous poster said don't insult by offering the BlueBook value on a used diesel - they are hard to come by and if you want it don't insult the seller by offering low
Is the 07 the "classic" with the LBZ generation Duramax? If so, it's a slam dunk. Grab it as long as it's in good shape and has been properly maintained.

X2...If that's a pre-emission LBZ 07 Classic , snap that sucker up most quick. If it has maintenance records, ya got a good find there. IMHO: If it's not a pre-emission LBZ or if the maintneance records are missing, keep looking till you find an 06/07 LBZ.

I would agree that the '07 with the 6 speed is a much better choice. I would keep looking for a crew cab though unless you have virtually no use for the back seat.

I would agree on the '07 classic as well. I am towing with a 2004.5 (LLY) which has been good so far (73K miles), but '07 classic is the holy grail of the GM world, if you can find one. BTW, you will never get it for Blue Book, especially a well-maintained dually. It should be well over $20K.
