As a chapter officer I always respond to those seeking information about our chapter. I have heard the complaint from some of our new members that other chapters either didn't respond or were snobbish. Unfortunately some people do tend to be cliquish. (Is that a word?)

The best way to hook up with an active chapter may be at your state's Samborees. In our state we have a first timers meeting on Saturday afternoon when each chapter has an officer present to speak to potential members. I met a couple of our newer members at the first timers meeting but the majority of our new members first contacted the state president and he sent them to us as we were in their area.

I have never understood why many people only think of discounts when considering the Good Sam club.

The Good Sam club has grown into a fairly large sized corporation but its beginnings were as a group of RVers who were willing to help other RVers (good Samaritan) and wanted a way to recognize each other.

I attend Samborees, I have been president of my chapter, and am currently the treasurer of my chapter. I fact we leave in two days for the Ohio summer Samboree where we will reunite with our many friends and probably make some new ones.

In my opinion you get out of the Good Sam club proportionally to what you put in it. Get involved, attend events, join a chapter, and volunteer to work in some capacity.

One problem is Good Sam promotes the discounts the most rather tcamaraderiemraderGoodhat Godd Sam was founded on. It has also become a big business and not a group of people volunteering together for a common cause.

Bottom line is like most any group you belong to is your last line, what you put in is directly related to what you get out.

Good Sam was never meant to be a service company that you paid for what you wanted, like a Walmart, but as a group of people with like interests and more in common than different so could speak with one voice to government entities.

Well, companies do have to evolve and change to be able to stay in biz. That doesn't always fare well for everyone but it is very necessary or else they would have closed doors down a long time ago.

I believe it isn't only the company that has changed but the membership and expectations. Check with any fraternity and see what is happening to membership and demands.

Our parents and some of the members here grew up in a time of not having money so you voluntered in groups you belonged to so that cost stayed low for the general membership. They volunteered and shared, whether it was planning, cleaning up or cooking. Todays generation is used to having money and paying for what it involvementsonal invoilvement or work involved.

It might not hurt to email the state president and say what you're wanting...s/he might better direct you.
