Just got to an RV park in Santa Cruz, CA. We were hoping to stay a few days. With all the forests here, we mistakenly thought that the lots would be private to the point of hardly seeing the motorhomes beside you. Instead, it's a "cookie cutter" situation where they've cleared the trees in-between the lots in order to put in the maximum number of lots. I'm going to be within a few feet of the trailer beside me if I want to spend time out on the picnic table.
Does anyone know of an RV Park within 15 miles or so of Santa Cruz, with very private lots, and that allows campfires?

In 7 years of full timing I have not found more than a couple of those in the nation, and those were typically state parks where profit was not the bottom line.

Realestate in CA is too pricey to be roomy and that's the case with nearly all privately owned RV parks everywhere. As mentioned, usually only state and national parks have a little more open space.
I can't swear to it but I heard that campfires in the state of CA are forbidden (air quality issues). You might ask the RV park owners...they should know.
Right now with red flag warnings up for the majority of the Rocky Mountain west...I'd not build a campfire anywhere even if allowed.

This KOA is pricey. I was last there in the mid 90's. The spots from ~19-58 IIRC, have hedges between the sites. These spots back up to a preserve so bare land behind them. I was in the red spots somewhere in the 30's.
Dunno how large your rig is but maybe give a call.

You didn't mention the name of the RV park that you are staying at.

Betcha I've stayed where the OP is at. (Likely Smithwoods or Cotillion Gardens)
They're OK, but packed in. They both allowed camp fires last time I was there. (I think one had a no fire past 10pm rule.. not my cuppa, but folks are folks)
I've never stayed at the state park, may be better (would have no hookups, and they ban booze, so that's out for me).

We like to camp near Santa Cruz but we make our reservations 6 months in advance, so anywhere I recommend is probably fully booked.
New Brighton State beach and Sunset state beach have a few semi private sites, and you might get a cancellation. New brighton and Seacliff state beach have hook sites, but you wouldn't like Seacliff as the sites are not private, in fact they are the complete opposite, with a public walkway at the rear of the site that is very popular with the locals. All three state parks do allow campfires as I camped at New Brighton last weekend and Seacliff 3 weeks ago.
