Hi,
What are the advantages and disadvantages of a Chevy V8 vs a Ford V10?
A major difference in the two Class C's we're considering is that the Four Winds Chateau 21 has a Ford V10 and the Freelander QB21 has a Chevy V8.
We're heard that the V10 gets about 2 mpg less and that it heats up the cab. Is that true?
Please comment on your experience with v8s and v10s.

Main difference with one you are stuck with a Ford engine and the other one you are not. 
Actually get the MH you prefer. There is not a dime's differences between the two engines. Both should wear out the house but if they do not both are expensive to replace.

Depends on which Chevy V-8 is available, you didn't state what MY you are considering. The Ford V-10 is a proven platform in MH's and has been for a long time.

I have the Chevy 6.0L V8. 40,000 miles so far and going strong. I tow a car and it does just fine in the mountains. Its not a sports car though.

My guess is that MPG will be about the same. Almost certainly not 2 MPG less with the Ford. Contrary to some, I’ve experienced no undue heating in the cab with my V-10. However, you’ll get more foot room in the Chevy, especially on the passenger side, and you may have fewer handling issues with it. Personally, given the choice, I’d likely opt for the Chevy, but I’m quite happy with my Ford.

In that size RV, the GM chassis IF the engine is a 6.0L. But satisfied with our Ford (details in signature).
Biggest I'd consider used on a GM is Four Winds 28. It's a 28 but built light.
GM now offers a 4500 (E450 competitor) and claims is outperforms the Ford V10 in an "independent test."
Back to your choices: Which TRANSMISSION in both? I don't think there was a 6.0/Allison option in GM. In Ford, that chassis will have 4R100 like ours or the newer 5R115 TorqShift that slightly outpoints the Allison. So to me, a TorqShift transmission would add a couple points to the Ford's score, but to me, the choice should be on FLOORPLAN. How well can you and your crew live in it? Then Condition, Price, finally Chassis.

I would be more interested in suspension, steering, and chassis. After that floor plan. After getting through those take the engine they offered.
I liked the 454 V8 in my old 89 Pace Arrow. I hated the Moryde rubber spring suspension. I like my F250 V10.

As has been mentioned...I have experienced no undue heating in the cab. When I was looking last year, and gathering information from this forum, there was much positive talk of the Ford V10. I have not been disappointed. I really enjoy the power on the road. Passing on the Interstate is not a problem. MPG...I don't worry about it...as long as the engine does its job and we have an enjoyable time...what's a few MPG's....buy a motorhome you'll be happy with...do your best to get the most for your money...and the USE IT...USE IT...USE IT...just my 1 1/2 cents...

Here is a little rule of thumb, if a little engine produces more (or the same) power as a big engine, did the little engine have to give up something to get that power, like reliability?
Power+Reliablity=Size

When someone tells you to buy the same rig they own, listen, they might be right. When they tell you to buy a different rig then they own, really pay attention, they probably know something you don't.
