The bad guys can just sit and watch people as they get into a parking spot. They can see people have a purse, camera, whatever in there hands, then they leave the car with nothing. Or they open the car door, and hide stuff in the glove box or under the seat.
Once they know something of value is inside, anything else they find is just a bonus.
Not saying this is what happened in this situation. Just giving a general warning.
That is a common issue. Folks arrive at the location (be it beach, mall, trail head, etc) and then go about putting stuff in "safe" places. Thieves watch for this. They will watch somebody put valuables in the trunk or elsewhere and immediately see a target.
Turned out much better than I'd feared from your headline. If you HAD been robbed there is always a chance for personal injury. Sometimes even when you do everything right bad things happen.

Did this same thing once when I was an OTR driver. I walked into a coffee shop to be passed by a guy with no shoes, my rig parked out front idle.. Got to the counter and then walked back to the door to find the antanae's on the truck rocking. I guess he figured he had time but my spidey senses were tingling I guess. Guy got it in gear and started moving (air brakes still on..) I found myself on the side step after I opened the door, kick to the chest later I had the keys in my hand.. Did the guys attitude change then once the engine rumbled to a halt and the wheels stopped turning.. I'm not sure what went through his mind as he flew over my head and down to the parking lot but he was lucky it wasn't my foot. Lots of crazy people out there, you just never know.
Glad in this case no one got hurt. hopefully Karma will take care of the guys who stole from you.
I am sorry this happened to you, but glad that only "stuff" was taken and not worse than that.

When you say "round" locks, do you mean cam locks like these?
Sorry to hear about that, it is infuriating and makes one want to take an active part in cleaning up the gene pool. It happened to me once when my F150 was near new. My son was working on his doc and flew in for Christmas. We stopped to eat at a restaurant his younger brother was working at. When we came out the rear window in my F150 was broken and his suitcase was gone. They also broke into the car next to me. Some of his gifts were unique, Wash U shirts, and had it been close to home I probably would have prowled around for a couple of weeks looking for someone wearing those shirts. But it was the other side of town and my insurance covered it. If I get an uneasy feeling I still today sometimes walk into a store then watch my vehicle for a couple of minutes to see if it's attracting any attention.
You say that You have a Lock on the LP Door! I believe that that may be illegal not to mention downright dangerous! LP Doors are supposed to be easily opened so that the Tanks can be Shut Off in event of Accident or Fire!

Good news and bad news. The good - yes many malls have video cameras covering parking lots - BUT bad news: cameras are there to catch people parking there and going elswhere, then car is towed and you must pay big $ to get it back. 1. Pay attention to signs in parking lots re. parking for customers only, especially larger malls. 2. park in front of cameras anyhow if going shopping, not under, see where camera pointed. Thieves probably are aware of cameras and may not take chances.
If cameras are recording, there may be some help to PD for identification, but most likely video quality is not good enough for court.
My co. installs a lot of mall parking video, not for mall but for the towing company.

No Alarm? Did it get by passed? As a former Navy man one of the worst crimes you can commit is theft. I can't stand thieves. I have had my vehicle stolen twice, one time at a mall in San Diego and from my house in Brawley, Ca. At least you still have your truck and your safe.

Yes, that's the "round lock" I was talking about. I've never heard of not locking the LP tanks. In the NW those LP tanks gets stolen left and right because they are used to make Meth (don't ask me how).
LP tanks and golf cart batteries disappear off of rigs all the time.
As far as an alarm system on the truck... this is a basic truck. No power locks. Just an am/fm radio. No power windows.
