Anyone ever camped at either of these? I'm looking at both of these State Parks. St Joe looks cramped and St George is off the beach a ways. Any thoughts or recommendations in the area? Thanks, Disco

I did both last summer. St Joes is the nicer of the 2 IMO. Some sites are small some a nice size. But there are roaches outside at the campground. One got in the TC but no infestation of the camper. First time I've ever seen the buggers outside. The beach is beautiful, loads of fish. The nearby town has a large Piggly Wiggly (love that name ) and many small shops. I like the town.
St Georges Island SP is bigger, more remote ( the campground is 4 miles from the entrance) with no nearby shopping. Mosquitoes are intense in the campground but the beach was clear. Had my most enjoyable fishing off the beach experiance ever at thier beach. It was a combo swimming and surfcasting deal chest deep in calm warm water loaded with pompano and sea trout ( ? IIRC ) . Pompano are great eating.
Both parks have excellent beaches and excellent bycycle riding oportunities. Hit both if you can.
Ide post pics but I dont have them downsized and ready to post.

They are worse than the human mind can imagin. We had to keep our golden retriever on a lease tied to the truck bumber to prevent them from picking her up and carrying her off. Bug spray don't work, they consider it a condiment.

You can also walk the 200 yd trail out of the back of the CG to the north side of the island. You can wade fish for sea trout and red fish.

We have been to both with our 26 ft. 5th wheel. Both are great places to camp with beautiful beaches. The sites at St. George are more consistently nice, level and paved while St. Joe's are rather variable but I wouldn't say any are bad. There are 2 seperate campgrounds at St. Joe. One is wooded and shaded but not as close to the beach. Both Parks are a bit remote and far from towns; especially St. Joe. Not a problem if you plan to just stay at the campground most of the time.

I have done both and my first choice would be St Joseph for the beach alone. Neither CG is spectacular but the beach at St Joseph is very nice.

St Joseph
Pros- Better beach

Cons- Remote and I hate the beach rats even if they are a protected species. CG not as good as St George

St George
Pros- Deserted most of the time and better shelling. Better area for good eats and day trip into Apalachicola. Better CG than St Joseph

Cons- Beach water is not as clear or pretty as St Joseph and beach rats (protected). Mosquitos are horrible in the CG.

LOL, there are worse places for mosquitos. I have been to Collier-Seminole SP on the edge of the everglades in the summer and you have never experienced mosquitos until you have done that. St George didn't even come close to the infestation they have

We've been steered away from St George and St Joe due to the damages, flooding, mosquitos, rats and what not. We found Gulf Beach CG @ Turtle Beach on Siesta Key. Anybody have any reviews, thoughts on this place?
