Aside from the major network plans, does anyone have any experience with no contract prepaid, such as TracFone, or prepaid monthly such as Boost Mobile ?
We would be looking to cut cell phone costs, but still require text and e-mail capabilities.
Any weaknesses such as network coverage or poor customer service ?
As usual, thanks in advance for any and all input.
We have used Tracfone for years. use their value plans. Updates automatically every 30 days for under $7 a month. Also if we need more time, we buy minute bundles 100 for $10(double minutes for life of phone). Found the phone works alot more places then some other plans.
We're not on the road yet, but a few family members use the TracFone and they get better reception in Ohio than with their previous Verizon phones. Our Verizon contract expires at the end of the year and we are also researching the prepaids. I look forward to reading the other comments!

We have used Tracfone for years, I don't have plan any of their plans, I have their double minutes phones, so if I buy a 100 minute card at Wal Mart I get 200 minutes on the phone, plus they have roll over minutes & air time.

We bought two Tracfones that use the Verizon network and included double minutes for life. We also bought 1500 minutes for each phone online that doubled to 3000 minutes with a years service, making our per minute cost about 5 cents. Whatever minutes are left over will be rolled over into the next years service when we repeat the process.
Do any of these plans have "Smart Phones" available?
Yes! They offer bring your own phone, so if you have,or acquire a smartphone, yes. You buy one of their SIM cards for $14.99 with a number. There are some guidelines for which smartphones work.
There is a good reason why TracFone has 18 Million customers and is the largest prepaid service in America.
BTW, their service reaches 99% of the US population, No one has more!

I got a deal on a Triple Minutes for Life phone from them.
We use both Net10 and Tracfone went Snow Birding. They are the same company with different options. For us Net10 is less expensive but I can keep the same phone # with Tracfone as they have a 365 day plan.
