Random question

We have a 6 month old cockatiel that we're considering bringing. We really never traveled with him before but the thought of leaving him home for 4 days makes us pause.

Any bird lovers that could chime in would be appreciated.

Thank you.

The bird would probably enjoy the quiet time at home by him or her self for a few days verses the rough truck ride in the cage. Then the change in temperatures that you have in a trailer compared to the constant temperature in a house is something else the bird is probably not going to enjoy very much. Or at least that's the way I'd feel if I were a bird that was being forced to go on a human vacation. Leave him plenty of water and food and he'll probably sleep most of the time that you're away.

Have seen many campers with bird cages and birds on their site, in fact this past Memorial Day weekend it took me a day to figure out it was the birds two sites over doing wolf whistles and not kids who just discovered how to whistle

I have not camped with our Caique,(about the same size as yours) but we will. We have taken it to Indiana from Texas, many times. It sits on my shoulder or handle bar on dash. He loves it. His wings are clipped, but he would not leave me anyway. We bring a perch and a small cage.

Some friends of our friends had their parrot with them while camping 2 yrs ago. They were full-timers. MUCH easier than having a dog they said.

I do by default.

I sold my house to go full time and had placed my birds and cat. The 'day of closing' the person changed their mind about taking the bird and cat. So I had no alternative but take them with.

As it turns out the birds have been a pleasure to travel with. They are ALWAYS happy. It's like they can't wait for me to open the window so they can hear all the different sounds of the types of birds we encounter as we travel and they try to answer their calls. Funny it drives the native birds nuts when they hear the strange sounds of foreign birds coming from my MH especially when we park in the woods.

Thanks for the input. I still have some trepidation with bringing mine but seeing the positive feedback helps!

Many years ago I had a little budgie I took. Make sure you secure every opening, not fun when they figure out how to open the cage door while you are driving. We thought we had secured them til he appeared on my shoulder. Temperature fluctuations are another concern with birds. Also used to tske him visiting my mom so He was used to the car ride. I don't think I would again.

Have you thought of the campers that would be camped next to you? Some of those birds make as much noise as a generator. We used to go to a private camp ground
and two separate campers had squawking birds. We would set up camp and a day or so later they would show up and set up camp next to us. Did not matter where we set up they would set up next to us. I grew to hate those birds and the owners !! I sold my membership just to get away from them
