Axles hung. Need to align the front axle and then mount the second parallel to the first. Rough heavy work..
The cross members will be welded in where the paint is removed. Still on the fence whether I need them..

It is heavy work, even the EZ Flex was tough by myself. I STRONGLY suggest you tie these two channels together, too much twisting going on on a tandem axle when turning and with the additional "moment" provided by extending the axles below the frame you're asking for a twisted frame. I'm not a structural engineer (Mechanical degree) but I've taken some undergrad. classes enough to think this is a potential problem, besides you've gone to this much trouble, finish it "right".

My feeling is that the Torflex axles are cross members in themselves. Its only 4", why bother?

If it were equipped with a leaf spring suspension, I would install at least two cross members.

Good point. I'm just beat doing this alone. Between the 100+ temps today, and a aging body still sore from yesterdays 12hr day.. Im moving slow.. or,I'm pacing myself.

Question for you.. I replaced the short 5/8-18 grade 5 bolts, with 6" 5/8-18 grade 8 bolts.. What would you suggest for a torque on those eight bolts holding my axle's on?

Torque on a grade 8 5/8-18 bolt is 170-215, but you will likley crush your 2X4 tube spacer before that happens....it will then come loose at a later date. I always fished the shorter bolts in from inside the tube.

Then once the axle tracking is set, I weld a short bead to keep things form shifting.

So your saying I should have used the shorter bolts and fished them all? What torque would you suggest with the 4x4?

I plan on tacking everything up after I'm sure it doesn't dog leg.

I didn't consider the torqflex, you might be right. However I'd still weld in a crossmember. Easy for me to say since I'm not doing the work huh?

If you used 4x4, that would crush even easier. You need to weld in a tube insert for the bolts so the tube won't crush.
