We are leaving Amarillo on June 29 around noon, we need to be in Jackson early afternoon on July 1. Looking for the best route with us stopping somewhere Friday evening for a stay over, maybe 5 or 6 hours north of Amarillo, any suggestions would greatly be appreciated, thank you.
not sure how far it is, but there's Terry Bison Ranch RV park on I 25 north of Denver, about 7 miles south of Cheyenne.
Or, there's a KOA at Ft. Collins, CO, but I don't know if the fire is out up that way. Might be smoky, etc.

There are a couple RV parks at Raton. We stayed at Cedar Rail last year. It's at the top of the pass. The second night we stayed at Rawlins and the third we were at Gros Ventre in Grand Teton NP just north of Jackson. We took US 287 at Ft. Collins over to Laramine. Keep a close check on the fire situtation around the Ft. Collins area.

We're planning a night stop in Raton on our way to the Arkansas River in CO in about a month. How was this park?

I like 287 going north, keeps you off of I-25 and the mess that is the Colorado front range. little traffic, no big hills, easy pull, great wide road, even a few rest stops.
I'd take 287 north to limon, co
I-70 east to Denver
E-470 around Denver(the NE corner, it's a TOLL ROAD, it's not cheap, it's worth it for no traffic)
I-25 north to Cheyenne. there is just no good way to go north from I-70, I'd just take the hit. traffic is much better north of denver and north of Ft Collins it's non-existent.
It's about 8 hours to Cheyenne (more or less) from Amarillo, i would look for parks there, there is also a bunch of state parks west of Cheyenne. Yes, it's shorter to take 287 thru Ft Collins to Laramie, but it's almost 30 to 45 minutes FASTER to take I-25/I-80 to Laramie.
I would take i-80 west to Rawlins, then north on 287 to Jackson (yes, you'll have to backtrack a bit at the end) You could also stay on I-80 and then go north on 191 at Rock springs. either way is good. There is going to be a TON of traffic everywhere on that weekend, just FYI
Cedar Rail was fine. We arrived during a downpour and were guided to our site. We just overnighted, so didn't use the facilities. Watch for the exit right at the top of the pass. It's easy to miss. Nice view.

Thx. Checked their Web site out earlier today. I've tucked it away in my folder for a probable overnighter. Looks like a good place to have an early morning coffee before hitting the road for our last leg.
