I normally run about 2500 to 3000 miles a year. I only have to do one oil change a year in my current gasser. I own a tractor trailer with a c15 cat in it and regularly change the oil in it every 5 K and my dealer tells me I'm waisting my money I should run it to 10k before I pm the truck. It would take me 2 seasons to get to 5 K on a DP coach . Would you be ok going that long ? It usually runs me about 500 for a pm service on the tractor . That includes all filters , oil, lubing the chassis, adjusting the brakes and clutch(wouldn't need that on the coach) check all lights top off all fluids and air pressure in tires. Just trying to figure expenses on an annual basis before I make the move. Before you tell me I don't need a DP , I know that already its a want. Thanks in advance for your opinion.

I don't like leaving oil that has been run and has contamiinants in it to be left sitting over the winter. I change my oil the last thing before storage each fall. That is one of the reasons I don't want a DP myself.

We run almost 5k miles per year and have been considering not changing each year. However, I am concerned that may be a problem for the extended warranty?

I look forward to read other thoughts too.

I change per mileage and NOT by the calendar. I DO send a sample off to Blackstone to analyze. Their typical comments are to "drive it more".....*S*

I too had a tractor trailer, and it only went just under 5000 miles per year (you know, HVUT and all) and I only did a PM once every two years, 10 to 12,000 miles.

Even the mechanic said that was fine.

I don't know that i would leave it 4 or 5 years, but every couple years is certainly fine.

I change my DP oil every other year for over the last 10 years.
Have 6-7K on it then. Cummins says change at 15K miles or 1 year.

I do it myself. I figure it will still outlast me by many years.
Changed oil, filter, greased, and changed both fuel filters.
Only cost me for parts $140.61
Have the fuel filters now on a 3 year replace time. Grease chassis every year.

I only put 4K on my Dodge PU with CTD last year... I change my oil 1x a year... I don't consider miles since I"ll never get to the recommended 7.5K/15K mile suggested intervals.

My concern is the warranty. I run about 7/8k a year, but Cummins says to change it annually or 20k. I do it annually just in case there is a problem.

Just what are those contaminants going to do while sitting in the oil pan over the winter? They are not going to multply. Not going to turn into anything else. They are not going to escape. Not going to eat thru the oil pan. They are still going to be there in the spring just like you ran it yesterday.
