The lowest gear ratio available is 3:36. Nissan claim it is = to 4:10, because of their rube goldberg set up that uses the tranny.
Nissan uses the cheapest parts. Most of the running gear is from the Frontier.
The Dana 44 would have been marginal, but Nissan had Dana ruin it.
Considering how few have been sold, the # of major part failures is amazing.
rear diff, front diff, front axle, rear axle seals, manifolds, IPDM's, BCM's, tranny mounts falling off or breaking, nearly every hose clamps fails.
The Titan is a pseudo truck. looks like a truck, but can't be used as one.
The problem with the Ram 1500 from 2009 to 2012 is the rear suspension. It's coil spring and it's mushy to say the least. They are trying to rectify it with the 2013 model. We're in the middle of trying to decide what to do about ours. Love the truck (09 model). It pulls our boat just great. The TT is a different story. WD hitch only helps to a certain point. On their website, Dodge says the 09 Ram has a towing capacity of 8400 lbs. Do some investigating and you find out that's only IF you have 17" wheels and 3.92 gears. Ours has 20" wheels and 3.55 gears, reducing our towing capacity to 7,000 lbs. BIG difference.

Are you sure on that TennRiverRat? According to the attached from Dodge, a 2011 Quad or Crew cab 4x4 with 20"inch rims and 3:55 can tow 8500 lbs, which is the same as my 2010 Quad w/ 17" rims and 3:55. Maybe it was different for 2009, I seem to recall they had lower towing numbers then the 2010 - 2011 models without any mods to the factory chassis.
Back to the OP - the problem with your Ram, as others said is the 4.7 V8. I had an 04 Ram 1500 with the 4.7 and it could hardly tow our 5000 lbs 21 ft HTT. Switched to a 2010 with the Hemi, and what a difference, even when switched to our current bigger trailer and it still doesn't have a problem. Only problem as TennRiverRat says is the coil springs are a little softer then previous models, but nice ride on the Hwy without the trailer.
I really dont think the Titan is a good second choice, the Ford Ecoboost would be my second, even the ugly-Dodge-copycat Tundra would be better...

I bought my current TV a 2500HD after my 2009 Titan had its 2nd rear end replaced. My Titan had the tow package. The 2500HD is a much better TV, it really is a night and day difference.

Had the very same thing happen in our 2005 Titan, which is why we bought the Dodge Ram. The first time the rear end went out in the Titan, which also had the tow package, was right at the moment we were pulling in to a campground pulling our pop up camper. BAM! We thought the trailer had broken. Nope, just the rear end. Luckily it was under warranty. We found out that the 04 and 05 models were notorious for this and talked to folks who were on their 3rd and 4th rear ends.
The other day I was following a Titan in traffic. We were stopped at a red light and I just happened to look at the rear axle housing. This Titan's housing looked like it was designed for a light car. I know that is a bit extreme, but the 9.75 rear on my old F150 looked much more substantial.
Good luck op with your decision.
