You need to tell us a little more-- don't know if you are starting a Toyota PU or Caterpillar C15.
And, I use Optima batteries for starting. They are not "compromise" batteries like marine batteries are. They give max CCA's for their size.
For our Caterpillar, I use two group 78/34 for a total of 1,600 CCA.

A marine battery is not a 'deep cycle' battery. I start my V6 chevy block mercruiser with one every chance I get and works every time.

Hi,
I've been using all Marine batteries since May of 2009 for both house and starting.

It's for my Holiday Rambler with a Cummins turbo diesel.
There are two starting batteries, they are four years old and they are marine deep cycle batteries. I am going to replace them before I go on a long trip in a month or so, and was wondering if I should get the same. These batteries always go dead after sitting for a week or two, but they've always charged back up.

Okay, I always assumed any marine was a "deep cycle".

If they are going dead in a week or two there is a load on them. They should be able to sit for a few months after fully charged and still have plenty of chanking amps left. But after 4 years maybe they're shot.
Are these your house batterys as well? Do you boondock any?

You would be better off getting starting batterys for the cummings. Marine batterys are a hybrid capable of providing enough starting amps for a boat motor but also have some steady draw capacity for electronics or a trolling motor or something like that.
Many people, including myself use marine for the RV house battery because of price and not requiring the ampacity of a true deep cycle.
On Edit: Your engine and starter motor will be happier with a starting battery as well. It will provide a higher current and voltage to the starter and the engine will spin over faster.
