That's not flattery......it's down right plagiarism.

And embarrassing to get caught....or should be.

If you are concerned AMZ/OIL makes a Cetain boost product. I am sure others do also.

Rota,

sorry about that, should have put something about you writing the info on cetane.
I did not realize they would put in my reply that Maxwell99 wrote the following information on cetane.

I just used your information because you seem to be the only person that fully understand cetane ratings.

my bad!!!!!!

however, in the end, no matter how much info i have about diesel fuel rating i still only have one or two stations to buy from and they have no idea what there fuel cetane rating is or care to find out as they know i have no option but to buy from them or stay home.

again Rota, thanks for the good write up on cetane ratings.

..Gee, last 4 diesels I've owned have been 3 chevy's and the Dodge never had a problem with any diesel I ever bought, not even with the Cummins...now 2 yrs. old...didn't matter if it was 100 degrees and extremely humid (WV, NC and SC) or VERY cold, (ie, WV and even NC)....used whatever diesel I pulled up to and pumped into my trucks....never had a problem starting any truck up or keeping it running....just something I've never worried about......and still won't...aint no big deal...pull up, pump the diesel, pay and drive off...nothing more..nothing less...

Cetane number? It isn't like one can shop around to get the best, generally all fuel in any given area is pretty much the same.
Cetane improver? Have you checked the MSDS to see what is in that stuff? I don't know about others, but I'm not sure I want 2-ethylhexyl nitrate or benzene or naphtha or any of the other chemical stews that are in that stuff in my fuel, even in the low concentrations that they recommend.
"Cloud point", now, that is something I pay attention to, especially in the winter! I want it to be at least 18 below zero, which most "winter blend" fuel is around here. Right now, of course, it really doesn't matter.

Out of fuel. I've been traveling around trying to find the Cetane numbers before I buy any fuel. Now what do I do?

I stick the #2 nozzel in the tank and pump until I get to around $125 bucks worth, pay the man, and go on my way

Let me correct that for you

I stick the #2 nozzel in the tank and pay the machine 1st, then pump until I get to what ever the stations dollar limit is per transaction. (My local truck stop is sweet, whatever you pump is fine. While traveling somehow the same card is only good to $75 ) and go on my way.
Max you need to learn about "Quotes" and all would have been fine. You know something like

We have Mercedes Diesels in our little smart cars and they can have long term issues with egr's with lower grade US diesel. Mercedes recommends minimum 50 cetane. We use a cetane booster. (power service diesel kleen cetane boost) We do notice a change but it is not drastic. The motor sounds different without it and there is a small but noticeable improvement in power and mileage when we use it. A jug lasts me a year or so and costs somewhere around 10 bucks.

We try to use biodiesel when we can and when in Canada we fill up at Petrocan which has the highest cetane levels in Canada. Around 50 to 52. Sunoco is a close second.

Slightly off topic. A good app for the iphone for tracking mileage on multiple vehicles is gascubby. We track all our vehicles and after awhile interesting patterns form depending on where you fill up etc. Even variations from driver to driver using the same route. Our long term averages for the smart cars is between 64 and 72 miles per US gal depending on use, (commuting or touring) season, fuel source and driver. High speed interstate type commuting drops it right down in the low 60s' real fast. (over 115 KMHR or 72-73 mph)
