As I was draining my fresh water tank, a question came to mind. How often do you drain your fresh water tank? I guess a better way to put it is how long do you let water stay in the tank? Being that I have well water, I don't like to let the water stay in the tank for more than three weeks or so. Although I use an in-line filter on the hose I worry about algei growth in the tank. Anyone want to voice their opinion?

I drain mine everytime I get back from the lake which is once a month. Don't know that I need to but since the drain is outside the unit and a quick twist why not?

I automatically drain mine after every trip once we get home. I see no reason to let water just lay in the tank.

I drain it after each trip which usually last three to four weeks. Then I fill the tank to 1/3 full with some bleach added during the fill. I use one of the Miracle Gro bottles and fill it with bleach then run the water through it into the tank.

Ours has some water in it year round. If it gets replaced often enough it's not a problem. It's nice to have a ready-to-go shelter if the power goes out and we need water (also on a well). We have a filtered tap that we use for drinking.

Thanks for the input.
Billy, do you drain the bleach water before you fill the tank for a trip?
Does anyone use any other additives in their fresh water tank?

stumper, if your tank is under the step up to the bed as many are, do your self a favor and cut a hole in the tank and install a marine deck port. You never have to worry how clean your tank is after that as you can just look in and reach in.

I never empty my fresh tank unless its just to shed weight for a long trip where I know I can fill at the other end. I use mine full-time everyday all year so about twice a year I'll give it a good bleach flush. I always put the additive in my tank when I fill up. I only use my fresh tank for showers, dishes, hand washing and toilet flushing. I don't drink from my fresh tank (I use bottled water) but I wouldn't be afraid to though if I needed.

We use our TT every other week during the summer. So I leave it alone unless we're going to skip a week. Then I'll drain it out. Basically the water never sits more than 2 weeks. I usually sanitize it again half way through the season just for good measure.

we have chlorinated water from the source(mountain resevoir),i think i can leave it in the tank a bit longer than water from a well.We dont drink water outa the tc,s tap as it seems to taste gross.I work for the water dept. and i dont think drinking water out of a big plastic tank is ever going to taste good...
