Could be getting time to make an offer on a RV!
Choice is 05 winnie minnie 29b and 06 outlook 27'.
either would work and my worry is the 05 doesnt have the new better transmission. Other than that they are about the same price and near the same miles (05-32k, 06 22k). Does or has any one have or have heard of any quality issues with either style? want to pic one to have inspected but at $200 a pop would like to pic the best one to try for.
Thanks , every one of my posts have been answered with very good information and I bet this one is to!

Which floorplan works better for you? I have the 329B because that's the house my wife wanted to live in. Now that I'm alone, a smaller one might work better.

I wouldn't worry that much about the transmission. 5R110 vs 4R100, the first gear gets split into a lower first and an overdrive on that which is close in ratio to the next gear up. Top three ratios are the same shifting up, so from about 30 mph gears are the same for most driving. From overdrive, the 5R110 downshifts into a slightly lower 3rd OD (=2nd OD on 4-speed) instead of direct, which might be better for acceleration in passing speed range. My 500 miles of driving the 5R110 was all Interstate, so I didn't make low speed passing maneuvers. What you really gain in the 5R110 is the engine braking programming in tow-haul mode, you have to manually shift the 4R100 for braking, working with the same gear ratios when above 30 mph.

Most people I know who traded in a RV on a different one, was because the floorplan didn't work for them, not because they needed a different transmission.

Both have their attributes. The east/west bed room and larger closet is a plus while the other has a larger shower and enough closet space. I was just wondering about difference in quality and potential mechanical problems for those particular years

We have a 2006 Outlook 31C. No mechanical problems at all. No structural issues and the rig is holding up very well all the way around. Nicely made, good fit and finish and we're happy with the quality of everything except the (*&#*&# cheap drawer slides that my husband has replaced as they've broken.

Study the floorplan and the furniture. Of the slide Winnie units, I like the 29b the best.
We looked at a 27-something and found one big problem in interior: the curved dinette instead of the sofa and dinette we wanted. Second problem: The 27 had almost no storage compared with the 29b.
Drawback to the 29b was weight: If your thinking is the 29 will have more carrying capacity than a 31 because it's shorter, check carefully. As I recall from looking at lots of specs, the Winnie 29s and 31s are close in NCC (net cargo capacity) and that NCC isn't real generous.
Tom, glad you weighed in on this - Can always count on you for details most of us don't keep organized.
Agree on the 4R/5R trans issue. I just commented in another thread that the 5R seems to make better shifting choices than the 4R and does them more smoothly. And that's before you get to the Tow/Haul feature. We have the 4R and we drove a 29 Gulfstream Yellowstone several hundred miles in Alaska with the 5R. Given an equal choice I'd want 5R, but as so many have said, Tom mentioned and I repeat: FLOORPLAN RULES!

If you're talking about a Ford chassis under those 2005 and 2006 Winnebago models, both years will have Ford's computer controlled 5-speed (6 speeds - with either 1 of 2 of them internally selected) TorqShift transmission in them. Ford starting shipping this transmission in their cutaway E350/E450 vans starting in the 2005 model year.

We have an 08 29b and love it! We made a few modifications to make it fit our needs but it has plenty of storage room and so far has been a solid unit.

Have fun!!

Some 05s may be on a 04 chassis.
