I have been looking at Dometic Deluxe and Carefree window awnings and need some
advice from the group.
1. Is there any real difference between Carefree and Dometic?
2. regarding color is black any better than light brown for sun protection?
3. Is the weatherguard worth the 30.00 extra or it is just cosmetic?
thanks for the input

1. Is there any real difference between Carefree and Dometic? IMHO not really
2. regarding color is black any better than light brown for sun protection? Black will be a lot hotter. Get a light color to help reflect light/heat
3. Is the weatherguard worth the 30.00 extra or it is just cosmetic? Probably mostly cosmetic, but when I had a new awning installed we went with it.
thanks for the input

In the many comments about Carefree, their usual customer support response is to "go see the dealer"
If you can live with that OK.

I would probably go with the "full view" awning with the metal wrap if keeping the awning looking new is important. I have three full-view awnings with vinyl wrap that are in ok shape but are showing their age after about 10 years. I would not order a window awning that wasnt full view. If taking out the view isnt important then I would seriously consider going with acrylic instead of vinyl. Vinyl looks cheap in comparison to acrylic and doesnt wear well.
One of the other advantages and I think its a big one with the full view is they dont trap heat under them like a regular awning.

I have a 15 year old acrylic A&E awning that I'm just considering replacing. The material itself is still in good shape but all the seams are starting to let go. Acrylic breathes where vinyl doesn't and is known for being long lasting. You'd want a lighter color that reflects heat instead of absorbing it. The weatherguard is important when you park the MH for long periods of time.

We have Carefree as power patio awning and slide toppers. Carefree has zero customer service. We've had the problem with stripped drive on patio awning and rotted stitching on topper awning. Both less than three years old. Carefree not only assumed no resposibility for the problems, they wouldn't even help find a repair facility. I'd go with anyone else.

I'm shopping for a slide topper. I understand that the only two brands are Carefree and Dometic. Is Dometic any better on customer service than Carefree?

JMO having both on 3 different MH's
1) For window awnings no real difference really between the 2(for patio awnings like Carefree better for auto ones)
2) Have 4 solid black window awnings now(largest 13 ft installed myself)6 yrs ago and see no difference in protection from the light green ones had on previous MH since acrylic and "breath" dont notice any difference any color is better then none.
3)We feel the aluminum cover is worth the money as had it on patio awning and wanted to match and it does help protect the awnings from weather if not in use and know people who have ripped theirs that didn't have one by tree branches
Hope this helps some....

You might check out the Zip Dee brand of awnings. Ours are 17 years old and seem to work fine.
I notice them on Country Coach motorhomes and Airstream Trailers frequently.
