Google up full time rv costs or search out blogs of full timers. Some can do it in a 15 foot trailer others need 40ft and a million just to maintain. Do keep in mind Rv's are as bad if not worse than boats for depre. Have them look into South Dakoata for residents as Puget Sound is killing everyone with taxes/fees, like the new Congestion tax fee (bail out metro). If they go the Trailer route they can use their pick up if they don't like it and come off the road vs taking a hit on depreciation.
Of course all this will dig into their annuity your trying to sell them or are you atleast matching the S&P 500. If so send me a PM of your info.

Just my opinion but we fulltimed in a 36' motor home with no slides and had plenty of room. Of course, they will need to tow a car behind it. A five year old diesel-powered coach of good quality would probably run around $150K.

I wish I could say your cynicism about my industry is misplaced.

However, there are a lot of quality people as well, myself among them. I am fee only, these folks are paying me hourly purely for financial planning, I am not managing their money or selling them anything. I do, however manage money for other clients. I do so with integrity, with skill, and with care to make sure the strategy is in line with what the client needs.

Part of me realizes that I should stop here and not get defensive or preachy. But...it gets old being insulted by total strangers who know nothing about me, it happens so frequently. It is even more discouraging when the insults come through avenues I am using to go the extra step in making sure I understand my clients needs.

Perhaps you could share your occupation with us. Then maybe I would be lucky enough to see somebody insult you.

Path1 was out of line to make that comment to you. Its obvious that you go the extra mile just to go to the trouble of joining this forum to ferrett out info for your clients. For the most part RVers are polite and accepting, but there are exceptions.

I'm in South Florida now and in looks like we are in for several days like today of rain, rain, rain. Then if we're lucky, maybe a tropical storm next week. I've been trying to do some outside work on the motor home and keep getting rained out.

That is why I said PM me if you are atleast matching the S&P 500. We are looking for somebody that can help us. So far I scheme seems to be open up brief case and give us a big chunk of money and we will pay it back to you every month.
My occupation is retired truck driver/military. Retired at 56 have 2 places paid off and income enough to bank some after expenses. Have rest of 401k and 403b in bonds (which I don't like) and some exposure to market (remaining funds). When we retired we had a community property agreement made up and have tried several times to get a fin. planner that has beat or atleast equaled the S&P 500. So far our $$ is not enough money for the big boys to deal with us (under 1 million) or fin. planner tries to sell annuity, when that fails they would like tho know if we have any friends that might be interested. I would love to find somebody to work with and can prove they came close to matching the market over a 10 year time frame.

Suggest you have the couple go to local RV parks within a 150 mile radius from where they live and talk to people with both motorhomes and pulling 5th wheel trailers. For full time RV living and working a Class A motorhome or a 5th wheel are the best options.

The cost will be about the same so it comes down to personal preferences. There are people that have gone from owning a motorhome to owning a 5th wheel trailer and vice versa. Driving a coach is easier for most to deal with then pulling a large and long trailer but the trailer can be parked in a RV park and then the truck (with an extended or crew cab) is much easier to drive around the area where they are staying then a large motorhome. Personally I would opt for the 5th wheel over the Class A motorhome for this reason alone.

While it is true you can pull another vehicle behind a motorhome at this point you have added at least another $15K to the purchase cost and you have a very long vehicle towing another vehicle so the maneuverability and driving demands are no better than having a truck and pulling a 5th wheel trailer.

I would expect that a newish gas engine 1-ton 2WD dual rear wheel truck (2007 or newer) and a 5 year old 5th wheel can be purchased for considerably less than a 5 year old Class A motorhome. The good news is that it is very much a buyers' market when it comes to used RV's.
