I have an O Grill that takes the small 1# propane bottles. Is it safe to refill them using the 30# bottle on the RV? Camping world sells a fitting to do this. Would like your input.

Yes, it can be done. You need to have the 30# tank in a position with the valve on the bottom so liquid comes out. Make sure everything is stable and won't fall over when filling a small cylinder. I helps to freeze the small cylinder before filling because it will heat up as it fills. You get a better fill if it is cold to start with. Be aware the refilled cylinders are no longer DOT compliant if that will make a difference to you.

You can do it as mentioned, but there is an increased potential for the valve to leak. Another option is to use a big tank with a hose, or put a T in your RV's system and use a hose to the grill.

I've done that and they work fine, but are never as full as when new.
What I did instead is buy a 5' hose with the adapter like the bottle's, and a small, 5 pound LP bottle. Lasts a long time, is easy to store, and easier to use.

All valid comments. Been doing this for years. The 1# bottles are fine for a "just in case" situation, but I use a spare 30# bottle to run my 2 camp stoves, BBQ, lite and portable firepit.

I've been doing it for years using the freezer method and heating the 20 lb bottle inside the car in the sun. It is possible to over fill the 1 lb bottles so they deform when they get warm so be sure too leave some room for the propane to expand. Ideally you should weigh the empty bottle then fill it with no more than 1 lb of propane.

Yes, you can refill them. Is it safe? Let's put it this way: I'd lose my license if I were caught dead filling one, even for myself. (It is basically impossible to determine exactly what is "full" with these little cylinders.)
I would recommend one of the hoses to connect a refillable cylinder to your grill. That's the route we took, and we are very satisfied with it. Pic and link:

I carry at least six of these in my RV tool box.... The Coleman Road trip grill uses them and my backup heat source Mr Buddy Heater also uses them. Wouldn't leave home without them on-board...

Yes it can be done but they cost a buck so why bother?

Been refilling for years with no issues. We mostly boondock/drycamp, so we need the small 1 lb bottles for Weber Q grill, campstoves, and lanterns. Our campsite can be spread out and running long lengths of propane hose every which way would not work for us.
