Well, it had to happen...local towing company wore out their repo truck. It is a 2001 F-550 4x4 and has V10 power...it limped in from an early-morning shift today running on eight cylinders, and the diagnosis is terminal: the timing chain jumped and seems to have bent valves.

The truck had a mere 553,000 miles on it.

The boss has not decided if he will replace the truck or put in another engine. Rock Auto lists a re-man engine for a bit under $2600.

A reman for $2600 sounds like a good deal! Have a V10 too and would like to get somewhere close to that before she kicks the bucket!

That was a good one. Looks like they got the full B100 life out of it.

Very respectable mileage... The Triton engines although lack in performance make it up in durability.

Heck...dump in a can of "Slick 50", add some STP, and "Gumout Regane High Mileage Fuel System Cleaner", some "ZDDPlus Zink Oil Treatment", maybe a can of "Nano-Lube Nano-scale additives" and a pint or so of Restore Engine Additive and he's good for yet another 500,000 miles.

It must be true..read the labels!

Impressive for sure.
Being a tow truck, them aren't your commute to work highway miles either.
