Hwy 138 and 18 to Littlerock is called death hwy by the locals. Lancaster elks is much nicer than Palmdale. East on Avenue K about 2 miles from the 14. At 14 to 5 then 405 use truck routes. All merge problems solved. 405 to 118---- slow and easy lots of merging and 40 mph clover leaf ramp

oldbeek...The only reason I was choosing Palmdale Elks was because I didn't want to have to unhook the car, and they have pull-thru sites, while it looks like Lancaster only has back-in spaces (with hookups). Right? So is Lancaster that much nicer just for an overnight? What's not so nice about the Palmdale Elks RV parking area or lodge?

Thanks for the tip about using the truck routes. I've seen the signs on previous car trips, but hadn't thought about it for the motorhome.

Perhaps, like me, you like to know how the OP resolved their original question or problem.

Well, I took 58 to 14. And I am very glad I did. Very easy drive, liked it much better than 18/138. Ended up staying at Antelope Valley Fairgrounds in Lancaster. Great, easy place to overnight.
