I just received my new fenders for my Cyclone. The original ones had cracked terribly so Heartland sent me new ones. But they are all one piece units. Since the fenders are mounted to the slideouts, they must be cut into two separate pieces.

Measuring the cut is easy. I'll just use the original one as template. But what do I cut them with? I want a clean, crisp cut that looks original. Its gotta be perfectly straight with no ragged edges. The fenders turn in at the edges so its not just a straight piece to cut across. Any ideas?

We had the same issue with our Cyclone 3800 under warranty. The repair center doing the warranty work was concerned about making the cut as well. They called me and asked if, as a cabinetmaker, I had any ideas on how to make a clean cut without any chipout or tearing of the new skirting. Easily resolved if you have the right tools. I simply put the skirting on my "Chop Saw" ensuring I had the area to be cut backed up with a piece of wood under the skirting. Make sure you use a piece of wood long and wide enough to fully sopport the skirting. I had to "Scribe" the backer board to fit the contours of the skirting to prevent any chipout. A slow, steady hand on the chop saw letting the saw do the work. A bit of sanding to break the sharp edge after cutting and its ready to install. Good luck!

I would talk to Heartland again before cutting. I doubt that the folks on the line cut those skirts before installing on every TH that comes down the line. Sounds like they sent you the wrong part.

Nope they cut them as they use them, thats what they told me anyway. I wanted them to cut mine to save on shipping (full length was oversize for UPS and they wanted $75 for shipping) So they cut it down for me and shipping went down to less than $20!

Wish they'd done that for me. Heartland paid for the parts and shipping. I'm doing the labor.

But they came in a very long box. So long, they were shipped motor freight. No telling what that cost them.

We just had a Montana 5th wheel in the shop that blew a tire and needed a new skirt on the slideout side. We just used an oscillating saw with a new blade for cutting soft woods. It came out nice with no chipping at all.
